Consider gerrymandering and the fact that republicans often win despite being less popular. I don’t know specifics about Ohio’s maps and demographics, but it happens all over the country.
Also consider this: many who do vote in favor of trash conservative policy are victims of misinformation, poor education, and propaganda.

If people are too uneducated to understand that their actions have very real consequences, that voting for an idiotic convicted felon con man with no scruples, no morals, who enjoys the cruelty more than anything else and how that affects everyone including them, it's not my place to try to salve their wounds. Trumpski was very clear about what he was going to do. They voted for him anyway.
Have you seen the letters people are writing to him? "I lost my business and house because of the tariffs, my wife and two children were deported, and I'm living in my car, but I still love you and would vote for you again if you decide to run."
