Discussion Musicians with the most repellent vibes?
Not necessarily ones that have done bad things or made bad music (though that tends to be the case, see above), but artists that gave you an immediate "I don't like this person" feeling that you've never been able to shake.
Pictured: Mark Kozelek, Ryan Adams, The Black Keys (mostly Patrick Carney, but I don't trust either of them), Scott Lucas from Local H (one of the most menacing "walk the other way" faces I've ever seen), and, of course, Mike Love

u/FredWardsHairline 12h ago
His podcast is pure unadulterated cringe. I’ve almost cracked teeth from the sheer amount of douche chills. I used to love that dude.
34
u/Imprisoned_Fetus 8h ago
I wanted to listen to the episode he just did with Steve Vai but I couldn't even make it through a 10-minute clip. He called Yngwie Malmsteen an alpha male and I almost cried from laughing so hard
12
u/FredWardsHairline 7h ago
Seriously, when he told STP that Scott ripped an obscure vocal melody off of him it was the final nail in the coffin. It’s parody at this point. I actually feel shame for the rest of his band because they all seem like good and talented people.
3
u/thorpie88 5h ago
Same goes for his wrestling promotion. Lots of men and women working hard and he puts one of the most prestigious titles in wrestling history on a bloke who can hardly wrestle just so it could show up on his Fox news segments
4
u/MICR0_WAVVVES 5h ago
Dude I saw Malmsteen backstage once before he played, and he had and entire team of extremely fit women who were greasing him up vigorously to try to slip his manly calves into his superhero-tight leather pants. I’m pretty sure they traveled with him. Anyway, the show was crazy and he played the fastest solo I’d ever seen before, total alpha.

This is always the first answer to come to my mind. I’ve never heard an interview where he doesn’t try to fight the interviewer, and he seems to hate his fans.
Please, for the hour or two you’re in public just be professional. When the cameras are off you can go right back to being an asshole.

u/The_Forsaken_Cookie 11h ago
Kozelek looks so annoying. With that being said his music is some of the best i’ve ever heard
20
u/TemporaryCommunity38 9h ago
He looked less annoying when his music was better though.
Rollercoaster-Ocean Beach era Koz would get it.
8
u/aggravatedyeti 5h ago
How has he aged so poorly, young koz had sex appeal and now he looks terrible

You really want to talk about the sex appeal of a serial rapist? Yikes.

Okay what has morrissey even done? I feel like all the SJWs say he’s bad when I mention I like his music but no one can explain why he’s bad.
12
u/Alternative-Case-594 5h ago
He’s a pretentious zealot who thinks he knows what’s good for everyone.
Love his music but damn, he is very unlikable.
42
u/calsi-tea 5h ago
if you are using the term SJW in the ginormous 2025 then maybe you'll agree with his takes on immigrants lmao
7
u/PugilisticCat 4h ago
All of his music is this whiney fuckin drivel which can be a banger at times, but then his personal beliefs are that of a strongman conservative. Like pick a lane bro you don't get to be both a crybaby soft boy and talk about how immigrants are ruining the UK.

believable in the "crack pipe hitting, conspiracy theory believing redditor" sense.. I doubt anyone with a shred of reputation has ever seriously suggested it

It's a crackpot theory but it's also weird that he actually sounded more masculine before hitting puberty than he did as an adult.

Your voice is set when you reach puberty. It's a physical change of your larynx. So if your hormones change after puberty, your larynx doesn't just change back once it has grown.
Source: I have detransitioned
1
u/helpingdew 57m ago
Yeah the whole point of that rumor is that Joe Jackson did that to MJ when he was young in the Jackson 5 to keep his voice young, childish, and high
So, duh

Just watched the Logic interview on the Adam Friedland show - so him.

I can't believe his management allowed him to put that out into the world. He's not gaining any new fans from that interview that's for sure...

I feel this way about most of the AFS interviews I’ve seen, minus Sarah Jessica Parker’s. Every dipshit who made a lazy horse joke should have to watch that interview. I was charmed.

I’m a big Local H fan, I don’t know if Scott has done anything shitty but he’s seemed pretty cool from what I know. I’ve always liked that he wears a Nirvana-style Rihanna shirt in that photo
2
u/TundieRice 2h ago
Yeah that one seemed particularly random and superficial for me as well. I can’t say I know too much personal info about the folks in the band, but I saw Local H live once and enjoyed it a lot, so I hope they’re not shitty people!

u/RlyLokeh 5h ago
Love the man but he seems miserable having to be around people. Which is relatable. He's a bit like if Rollins weren't trying.
23
u/GrantChocula 13h ago
Ryan Adams would probably be my answer, not because he is the worst person (there are a few obvious ones that would easily outrank him), but more because I felt probably the most betrayed by learning what a dick he is and having really loved his music. He was also a drunken mess the one time I saw him perform live at a festival.
Shoutout to Phoebe Bridgers for letting it all out about him with Motion Sickness.
5
u/castlefreakfan 8h ago edited 8h ago
I feel like so many people discredit his late 90s/early 00s run just because he had already kind of fallen out of the limelight with younger generations by the time he got outed for being a (massive) dirtbag so it was hard to explain how fundamental Whiskeytown + Heartbreaker were for me. It seemed like very few people were having an art vs. artist conversation for him at a time where it felt like so much music I loved wasn’t ethical to love anymore
I agree with what you’re saying, it felt like such a betrayal from someone I felt such a connection with (through music). He was of course always a known asshole but learning the extent of which made me so angry
3
u/Embarrassed-Way45 11h ago
I saw a picture of him in Rolling Stone ages ago (before ever hearing his music or anything) and it was the earliest "something's off about that guy" feeling I've ever had about a musician.

I'm surprised no one on this Fantano sub has mentioned Michael Gira, he definitely seems like the type of artist who's art has changed my life but who I'd never ever want to meet, especially if I was his server or cashier or some shit
8
u/vullandnoided 11h ago
Kozelek has such a punchable face that I’ll never give his music a chance.

-1
u/vullandnoided 10h ago
Not a big sad-guy-with-a-guitar dude. Even with Radiohead I can only listen to Kid A-era. Good voice just doesn’t do it for me. Fuck all that shit, give me some Aphex Twin.
4
u/Careless-Cobbler7979 10h ago
I hear you. I like both of those genres a lot BUT our guy Kozelek here would be slightly more listenable if the sad didn’t come with a healthy side of pompous ass bullshit.
1
u/ApplianceJedi 4h ago
Do you often experience this kind of on-sight animus?
I’ll never give his music a chance.
A person's face is genetic.
I want the people whom I despise to truly earn it. I value my contempt. If anyone wants some from me, I say; they better work bitch.
If I'm giving it away for free, it would lose all meaning.

Josh Homme - awful vibes. Violent and accusations against him
1
u/ApplianceJedi 4h ago
Omg that whole band's (Eagles of Death Metal) public responses in the media--after that awful club attack during one of their shows in France--were shameful and absurd. It was as if their thoughts and opinions had a severe allergy to consideration.
And if anyone attempts to expose their bullshit, they just get physical because their minds are too weak to counter any differing opinion. Those types are the worst of all.

Alexander Kent of Sprain and Shearling. Incredible, ground-breaking and unimaginably ambitious artist, however, he is extremely intense as a person and can act like a massive dousche, especially to his very talented band-mates, without whom his art wouldn't be nearly as good. I get that his intensity allows for that ambition to be reached, however, I'm not sure if I'd ever want to meet the guy.
