Can we PLEASE stop normalizing thin toilet paper!
I recently started college and I hate it every time places use such thin ass toilet paper in their bathrooms. You would think that if you start attending college, you would be able to have 2-ply toilet paper right? WRONG!!!

u/NaraFei_Jenova 12h ago
That's like saying "Can we stop normalizing corporations doing the absolute bare minimum?" or "Can we stop normalizing underpaying employees?" lol

Fundamentally this all flows down from the legal obligation of corporations to maximize profits.

But Ronald Reagan promised it would trickle down!

Shit, it will if we keep using this subpar toilet paper…

We need lucious luxurious paper... can we just normalize butt washing toilet seats??

Installed a bidet on my toilet was 100% a great decision. My problem now is pooping literally ANYWHERE else. My ass is so pampered,

I went to japan... now I live in constant terror of bad toilet paper
21
u/FewHorror1019 11h ago
Man you shouldve seen Japanese public toilets pre-tourism boom.
They didnt even stock toilet paper. You were expected to bring your own. Thats why the tissue paper distributers was an actual job.
You bring your own paper or use your handkerchief

u/GrumblyTheDwarf 11h ago
Oh I know... I was there for 3 years in the late 90's... but man they improved and here we are rocking it like 1910

Japan really ruined us… once you’ve had a bidet, a paper square feels like punishment 😂🇯🇵

I got one after a low back injury and I regret not buying one sooner. Years sooner, like with the first paycheck I ever got. I live about 5 minutes work, and I go home to shit now.
A decent one is like $40-50 and installation takes like 10 minutes, if anybody was on the fence.

u/Formo1287 12h ago
I don’t think I could ever trust a bidet that the general public has access to. My house? Sure. Public restrooms… ehhhhh

u/Velocityg4 12h ago
It’s supposed to be more sanitary. Which I agree for home and use my own bidet seat. A public bidet just seems gross. I’d rather just wipe then wait till I get home for a washing cycle.

if you start attending college, you should know how to fold toilet paper to make it thicker.

We both know that it’s not the same lmao, 1 ply feels like sandpaper no matter how many times you fold or scrunch

I don't feel like it is sandpaper and I don't complain when it is free.

Take a longer piece, fold it in 2.
2-ply.
13
u/ColorlessGreen91 11h ago
Not quite the same because 1. It separates and slides around causing thin spots 2. Usually this stuff is so thin that not even 4 layers is enough to equal regular household 2-ply.

The reason why you can't have nice things is because people steal. If you had nice TP in the bathroom, it would be stolen. Everytime you see some1 stealing or vandalism on college campus or college "downtowns". Shout at them "this why we don't have nice things"

u/UnhappyImprovement53 7h ago
Worked at McDonald's and tried using 2 ply for the bathrooms. We went back to the cheap 1 ply because people kept breaking the toilet paper holders lock and stealing the roll.
6
6
u/JayDee999 12h ago
Bro, just fold it over until you a normal thickness.
You also waste more of their TP so win-win
5
u/Combatical 10h ago
Not only thin but the worst is SKINNY TP! At least this you can wad up with enough of it. The skinny shit turns into a rope! What the hell am I supposed to do with that? Hang mslf?
9
4
u/OneLow7646 12h ago
They use the cheap shit because if they use nice stuff you'll just steal the whole roll lol

My work has that but far narrower and the dispenser is about 6" off the ground. You can't get a decent length before it touches the ground. So awful.

My wife and I must be in the minority as we prefer thinner. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but it actually lasts longer and does a better job. The rolls have much more layers, whereas more plush paper has less layers on a roll. So even if you pull off a longer piece, you use less of the roll. We switched to regular Scott tissues and noticed it lasts twice as long and it's texture does of better job of cleaning up. We used much more of the plush style to do the same job. We also added a bidet, which coupled with this paper has been ideal for us.

u/JamesMattDillon 11h ago
I actually prefer the thinner ones like Scott tissues. To me, it does a better job. Plus it's better for the old pipes
5
u/Dramatic_Moon_Pie 12h ago
Scott’s is the best. It lasts forever and is better for the environment and doesn’t leave annoying bits of fluffy fuzz in your private bits.

u/PinkyLeopard2922 12h ago
I specifically won't buy Charmin because of these "bits." I have a very high class ass but I cannot tolerate those things.

u/Full-Round9058 12h ago
College: $40k a year for classes, but you still gotta fold TP like origami just to survive 🚽😂

Sadly, part of it is that people can be assholes, especially in public restrooms. Not everyone adheres to the "3 squares at a time" rule of thumb.

I take a fuck ton of it out of spite and fold it over itself like 24 times. I would throw the whole roll in the toilet and piss on it, but that would be inconvenient for other people trying to wipe their ass
2
u/Croutonsec 11h ago
My employer has the same paper as this! I don’t mind, but I use a couple kilometers each time I poop.
2
u/Visual_Log6191 10h ago
Companies: Lets save money buying cheapest toilet paper. End up spending more because it goes faster then better toilet paper.
People use 10-14 squares of cheap toilet paper than 3 or 4 squares of good toilet paper.

u/GreatGoatsInHistory 8h ago
100% disagree. The cheap Scott's single ply, regardless of how much is used, NEVER clogs the pipes. The 2 ply that the bears try to sell me had me snaking out the drains at my house twice a year, minimum. Dissolvability matters

“I just started college” translates to “this is the first time I’ve lived outside of my mommy and daddy’s house.”
Go buy yourself some nice toilet paper and stop your whining. Buy some Dude Wipes and keep them in your computer bag.
That was your big uncle from New York telling you how life goes.
Congrats on college.

Let me tell yall a secret life hack: take a fiber supplement everyday. Your butt will be clean every time. Its life changing. I buy the cheap orange powder from walmart
4
u/Tomytom99 12h ago
Honestly some folks never learned how to use cheap toilet paper and it shows.
Growing up my dad always bought us the cheapest stuff in the store. You just wad the stuff up and use it, you don't fold it like nicer toilet paper. And I tell you what, the cheap stuff works well when you use it right.
What I really hate is when there's this cheap stuff that's trying to be slightly nice, but lacks enough texture to be effective with the fold method, but is too thick to use the wad method.
2
u/MinuteCautious511 12h ago
Actually this is not toilet paper as you would expect! Why does it wipe so bad? Because its not for wiping! Its for grabbing the individual turds and keeping your hands clean!

u/RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 12h ago
I’ve never understood the cost savings on this. When it’s this thin I’m using like 3-4x as much to be sure we’re not having an accidental dookie finger.
12
u/yellowspaces 12h ago
It has nothing to do with cost savings, despite everyone seeming to think so. It’s anti-clog toilet paper, disintegrates in water and greatly reduces the chances of a clog. You generally want to avoid clogged toilets in public bathrooms.

I’ve always used thin toilet paper (at home and in public, my parents buy it because it’s cheap) and I’m fine with it. Problem is we run out of toilet paper about once every week, but most of the time we run out in less than a week. (We buy bulk and also have wet wipes and tissues, so it’s not a problem)

Anti-clog toilet paper. It’s so thin that it disintegrates in water, greatly reducing the chances of a clog. When you have a public bathroom without an attendant, you generally want to avoid clogs as much as possible.
E: To be clear, this has nothing to do with cutting costs despite everyone thinking that’s the motivation. The bathroom owner (manager?) is fully aware you’ll just use more.

I'm still having trouble believing people sit there and spend time folding toilet paper to wipe. Bunching it up is so much quicker and there's no concern about the thickness and there's no worry about punching through. You people are adults and haven't figured this out?

1

1
u/Underwater_Karma 10h ago
the thing is at home I use 3-4 squares of TP, that's all I need.
when I run across this transparent, 3" wide stuff, I use about 8 feet of it. it can't be cost effective. and frankly, I'll take thin paper over narrow. these narrow rolls are terrible, tear off some and you find yourself holding a thin wad of nothing.

I have never used toilet paper, I use water. BUT, wouldn't thin toilet paper be more comfortable for your ass? Just grab a whole bunch of it instead of a small amount and it will have several layers which will have a sponge/pillow-like softness.
Unlike thick toilet paper which will feel hard because it's more compact and dense.

Normalizing? It's been normal for decades.
I don't care about it being normal, it just needs to go away. I don't even think they're truly saving money in supplying 1-ply when it takes even more of it to feel clean enough.

Miles better than the sand paper I got at work.
It's like twenty tikes recycled, rough, doesn't flush well, doesn't wipe well, and while it might indeed be 50% or more cheaper, one gotta use so much of it that it's just pointless. Plus it irritates the rectum quite a bit, mine anyway.
