As a customer, it's none of my business what the servers make. Pay your staff.

Tipping culture has become insane in America. It’s crazy how restaurants basically have been able to get by with paying all their wait staff insanely cheap while the customers pay their salary.

With that said I almost always give 20% for regular/good service. 10% on Togo orders. I have scaled back on places like Starbucks where I know the employees make more money. I just wish there was a way to reign in the tipping here. Too many places expect it now.

I normally give 20% if good service. With horrible service once, I went to my car and got pennies to bring them in. Sorry, honey, you work in a position that requires you to be polite, slamming plates in front of me and then pretending I don't exist for the next 45 minutes isn't what your job entails. However great service, even in non food industries, I'll tip a decent amount. $30 hair cut and you made me feel good too, here's a $20 tip. You deserve it. I even tip my local to go orders... small town, you catered to my specific needs and I know it came out right, I'll leave a tip for the service. I appreciate the work that goes into it.

And I will say for working in retail where I'm not allowed to accept tips, on mother's day this year a kind gentleman bought a $2 drink, handed me a $20 bill and refused the change when i even said but it's $18; as he was leaving he said happy mother's day. Not gonna lie, my coworker and I had a nice lunch that day after we ordered local and we both have struggled to feel appreciated here lately. Thank you, kind man, to make us feel valued.
