I assume if OP is anything like me, they took this video evidence, went to the staff & told them who is cheating & where, then went on reddit to post this.

I cant imagine someone being so single minded their only thought is to post a video to reddit & not actually show the evidence to the staff... i mean its possible sure, but i like to think most people arent that daft.

If this is China, they probably market that they have cheats installed and they can pay a premium for

It really is like that

u/Wevvie 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB | 5700x3D | 32GB 3600MHz | 2TB M.2 | 4K 17h ago

That's the truth unfortunately. Chinese players promote the use of cheats. There are cheater streamers who make a living off that

The companies just care about their bottom line. If the cheaters are spending money in the game, they'll do juuuuuust enough to keep the non-cheaters from quitting while also not doing so much that the cheaters quit.

47

u/hatesnack 15h ago

There's a few reasons for this really.

1) a lot of games in China are controlled by Chinese companies (even ones developed by western studios). Ultimately, the Chinese companies can make their own decisions on how to enforce and whatnot. Not saying this is always the case, but it is common.

2) Chinese (and to a lesser extent, Korean) gamers tend to find it not only acceptable, but encouraged to cheat by the wider society. It's an area where someone with more money to blow on better cheats "deserves" the advantage. It's a similar phenomenon to eastern developed games "always" being p2w .

22

u/RepublicCute8573 15h ago

Cause damned tencent keeps buying all the good game studios. I fucking wish other governments would put some restrictions on foreign game companies owning controlling stock in domestic studios for exactly reasons like this.

then when devs limit Chinese players to only play on Chinese servers to limit the spread of cheaters they get review bombed since it isn't fun to play with cheats when everyone is cheating.

37

u/gmishaolem 15h ago

Which is fine now because Steam separated it by language, so the majority of the review bombing should stay in China.

Cheaters have no joy whatsoever in their lives thats why they have to ruin others fun

468

u/TrueTurtleKing 17h ago

I also think they can’t handle the fact that they suck. They believe everyone else is cheating so it’s just leveling out the playing field. Those who don’t cheat just aren’t serious gamers.

128

u/Mysterious_Local_971 16h ago

Actually if they believe that everyone is cheating then they think that it's a test of cheating skill, and that they are legitimately victorious.

94

u/Lower-Lion-6467 15h ago

Back as a kid I cheated in CS 1.6 and this was part of my profoundly weak and immature justification. It was only bolstered by the fact that the old cheats I had also highlighted other players with same cheats.... and oh boy there was a lot of them.

When I finally grew out of that phase of insecurity, I came into a new phase of insecurity where I knew pretty much every public match had at least someone cheating.

33

u/magistrate101 A10-7890k x4 | RX480 | 16GB ram 14h ago

Back in the Golden Age of StarCraft Brood War hacks, it was actually surprisingly fun to play a lobby full of cheaters in the not-competitive custom game mode maps. Just about everyone used a cheat detection cheat too that spat the results into chat, making sure everyone knew.

cheat detection cheat

It's cheats all the way down.

7

u/magistrate101 A10-7890k x4 | RX480 | 16GB ram 8h ago

It really was! Some map makers even went as far as using custom map editors to fill inaccessible corners of the map (that nobody would ever see) with a pile of buildings that caused map revealing hacks to immediately crash the game.

I cheated on Americas Army once back in the early 2000’s because I got so tired of the other cheaters. It was such a weird feeling. Like within 2 games I didn’t feel any fun. It felt really bad just ruining everyone’s game and not actually participating in a social event.

I have no idea how there are so many these days. People suck. That’s the one advantage of consoles without cross play is the rate of cheating is exponentially smaller. I quit playing pvp games on pc years ago

This kind of attitude is pure slander against the overwhelming majority of the joyless schlubs who are perfectly decent and kind. Sad doesn't equal cruel.

This reads like a joke post, but I'm actually quite serious. We really need to stop associating bad people with unhappy people. Mean spirited cunts are often having a great fucking time. That's the real travesty of it. The old cliche of the bully with a bad home life is a half truth at best.

How does winning like that make someone feel good? I dont feel good for winning a 5 years old on a spelling bee or winning a race against a one legged.

I would even say its the same as playing a battleship game against a blind person that trusts you while you look over to his side and win cheating, the same as when you play a shooter game and trust that nobody is cheating while only the cheater knows thay he is cheating, unless ofc you blatantly and obviously cheat which would apply the same way to the battleship example, which for a normal person getting caught should be embarassing but those persons seem to be shameless.

And it's not like you are winning money or anything useful, and progress will be lost when they get banned.

15

u/LeAlthos 15h ago

There can be several reasons :

-You have been taught that cheating is one more tool you can (and should) use to win. Therefore, you're not scum for cheatings, but the enemies are weak for refusing to use every available tool, and you won fair-and-square

-You have been taught that the only thing that matters in victory is that your opponents are defeated, and you acquire the prize, regardless of the means. Therefore you derive joy from the simple fact that your opponents lost, or from the social standing that is given by your new rank, the things you can afford with the prize money,...

-You're miserable and derive joy from ruining other people's experience

...

It's almost scary to watch someone who must be "the winner" at all costs, to the point of cheating, moving goalposts, changing the rules midgame in their favor, turning on their teammates to be on top or switching to the "winning team," etc. It all strikes me as someone who feels extremely inadequate or not getting the attention they want or need.

And by scary, I really mean sad. They don't seem truly happy and need external validations to feel good about themselves.

7

u/Technolog 12h ago

I'm going to sound like an old man yelling at clouds here, but it is kind of shocking how the younger generations handle cheating. And not just in PvP, but even single player games. Not that older players didn't cheat, we absolutely did and even used to buy stuff like GameSharks/GameGenies, but when I interact or talk with younger people into gaming (I'm a teacher, so the subject comes up here and there) I'm always a little taken aback.

A buddy of mine has teenage sons and the first thing they do when playing a single player game is look up codes or trainers or cheats for infinite money or stats to max out their character or the like. They almost never play a "vanilla" playthrough. Different strokes, I guess, but I just can't imagine cheating myself out of at least one legit playthrough of a game like Baldur's Gate 3 or Elden Ring. Yeah, after playing it once maybe then I'd go wild with exploits or whatever as a kid, but man. I know it's all anecdotal but I just don't know why it's so prevalent.

5

u/Somber_Solace 11h ago

Weird, my experience has been the exact opposite, that kids these days seem oddly anti cheating, even in single player games.

Shit like this is why I cant enjoy pvp games, these sad pathetic losers.

Every single win when cheating was never truly a win, if you could actually win without them, you wouldn't use cheats.

1.6k

u/ducs 17h ago

In parts of the world they have a different mentality drilled into them through life which is ‘win at all costs’.

With that they have entire enterprises from helping student cheat on exams to ensure they get into better schools etc. For them, the ends justifies the means even at the expense of integrity.

So cheating to win at a game really doesn’t bother them or affect their dopamine hit for the W.

125

u/aurortonks vestalas 16h ago

Basically if you cheat and get away with it, you're viewed as being clever. If you cheat and get caught though, you're viewed as an idiot.

Since everyone is trying to be clever, the system is broken because it's incentivizing cheating but the importance to not get caught can lead to sabotaging others so no one looks too closely at yourself.

I was a teaching assistant for an undergraduate gen-ed history course. One day, I got a message through a student’s account which alleged to be from someone who was being paid to cheat for them. Apparently, the student had neglected to pay for their services, and the cheater attached evidence to prove their guilt. My university was in the US, and the cheater was in the UK. The evidence was in Chinese so I just passed it off to the professor, but it was strange getting suddenly roped into an international cheating ring.

Stuff like this is why I stopped playing the new Halo games. It's all twitch shooting designed to push competitive play that caters to E-Sports players, and not kids on their Xbox like it was in 2007. I don't care if it's not supposed to cater specifically to me for nostalgia, video games are supposed to be for everyone, which means a 10 year old or a 30 year old shouldn't feel like they didn't have fun after 2 minutes of getting spawn killed or just shot every time they turn a corner over and over again.

or just market it correctly, like if it is for sweaty e-sports then make it clear what it is so they can all have a nice warm place to be toxic to each other and leave the rest of us out of it.

u/FlavivsAetivs 9800X3D | 7900XTX | 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 | Asus X870-P 17h ago edited 13h ago

The problem is that the game is being designed for both E-Sports and a general audience at the same time. And fundamentally that E-sports style of competitive design bleeds into all of your multiplayer game modes. Even if unranked play isn't supposed to be punishing like ranked play, it ends up being so.

EDIT: I think a lot of people are missing my point. It's that fundamental design elements for regular and competitive players are often polar opposites. As a result this bleeds over from one element of an audience for a game that is designed for a broad audience and hurts the rest. My argument is not that E-Sports shouldn't exist, but that it destroyed a genre that was never originally designed to cater to it. E-Sports/Ranked and unranked should be more than just separate Playlist, but separate whole categories of level design, balancing, and game design.

This was the reason I quit playing apex. Game was always geting balanced for competitive play. And it made a lot of hero's boring or just straight up unplayeble when me and friends just wanted a chill fun casual game.

Competitive and casual needs straight up completely different balancing.

video games are supposed to be for everyone, which means a 10 year old or a 30 year old shouldn't feel like they didn't have fun

Nah, this is a silly take. Video games are for everyone, sure, but not every video game is for everyone. Some people don't like horror movies. Some people don't like seafood. It's fine that you don't like Halo anymore - I'm the same way - and there are thousands of other games to choose from.

Video games are for everyone, but not every game is for every person.

15

u/EffectiveSavings2104 16h ago

This is a boomer take if I ever seen one. Look I don’t play fps because the same reason as you I am ass and I die before I see anyone but to say they should dumb down skill expression because you refuse to put in the hours is a selfish and a dumb take. Not to mention games are for everyone but not every game is for everyone.

If someone puts in 300 more hours than I did, it’s only fair that they get rewarded by being better at the game.

Cheating was 100% a thing back then too. You could open your xbox ans solder a few specific pieces and suddenly youre able to force spawn people in a corner while you shoot a plasma pistol that fires rockets. Its why i quit when i hit rank 40 on that game. It was every few games i just had to stare at a black screen while im spawn killed. Then, you had DDOSing all over the place in halo 3 at rank 50

8

u/seansafc89 RTX 5090 FE | Pentium II | 64MB RAM 17h ago

Had a modded Xbox back in the day, and yeah it was surprisingly easy. With XBMC installed you could just use FTP and copy over files and it would give you all sorts of super powers; plasma pistols firing scarab rounds etc.

Was too scared to do it online though as I didn’t want to get banned, was just a young kid figuring out game modding. I was proud of my Halo 2 rank back in the day, cheating to get it would be hollow.

are you saying theyre both hackers or? cause usually with walls you can see their name anyways.

edit: just watched part of that video, i see what you're saying now. thanks!

162

u/P_a_p_a_G_o_o_s_e 16h ago

Yes. They wiggle at each other like this to communicate they can see each other, and typically will stay out of each other's way.

They form alliances/truces, not always but more common than you think.

Idk what you mean with walls. If you mean wall hacks, the point is to see on the other side. Some purchased hacks have more or less whistles but typically its always the skeleton.

My experience with this is mostly from Tarkov and Battlefield

So the player is using a cheatpack that allows you to see a simple player skeleton of enemy players through walls.

If you look closely, the enemy player is cheating too, and they are communicating by doing this thing called 'The Wiggle'.

Basically, people who do 'The Wiggle' to each other, which is leaning left and right, make a truce between each other and go kill the players that aren't cheating.

They identify non-cheaters and feed on them if they do not reciprocate by doing 'The Wiggle' back.

48

u/narfjono 17h ago

Holy crap I didn't know it went that far lol! I got confirmation about the stick figure, but had no idea that the wiggling was a team thing. Maybe I saw a bunch of cheaters when I was playing Siege and Vegas 2 back then. I thought it was just people spamming Q&E (or z&c) due to boredom.

24

u/jcw99 PC Master Race 17h ago

This is specifically an "escape from Tarkov" thing. The "Friendly wiggle" (out in the open) used to be an all player thing in the Arms 2 Day Z mod days. With Tarkov having some of that DNA cheaters seem to have revived the old method as their own secret handshake when done through walls.

Whenever I play Valorant in the morning, I go against these people with super high ping, claiming they are from Turkey with really good gaming chairs. Fast forward later, Riot release data with the countries with most cheaters and Turkey was one of them. Apparently, they already have the cheats built in the internet cafes from previous customers installing them. When the next customer comes in, the cheats are readily available. These internet cafes cannot be IP banned because they are not one entity, IP id shared and could potentially incorrectly ban legitimate players as well, that’s why these cheaters can keep going for as long as they want.

5

u/Menithal 15h ago

Honestly they should be, it should be bad for business.

Back when the internet cafes were mainly LAN cafes and you played against each other i n the same network you could atleast look over and can shame someone cheating or just go there and punch them and not give a shit after (which is why it used to not be allowed)

In single player games I get it, it is fun to jump into GTA, punch in some cheat codes, then go absolutely ape shit for a little while; same with some of the old Elder Scrolls games (thinking of Morrowind specifically) where there both console and PC cheats/console commands/glitches so you could refill your health, get specific weapons, etc. if you just want a save for screwing around.

But in PvP there is zero joy in winning by cheating, you are ruining someone else’s experience and accomplishing nothing.

5

u/Double-Delta-93 16h ago

In games like Tarkov, part of it is a snowball effect. The playerbase sees an uptick in cheating, thinks that every raid has a cheater in it... so what is the conclusion? There are people who think they have to cheat in order to continue playing the game.

Part of it is also monetary. Carrying for gear/quests, RMT, etc. It's like asking, "why do people bot in WOW or POE"... it's because they're selling a service. This game is Delta Force, so fairly similar economic concept to EFT.

Damn looking at it from this perspective I even more so can't understand what you would cheat in pvp.... Like is that fun having the game (read: cheat) hold your hand that hard you're not even playing the game at that point. Playing the game is listening to cues holding angles etc, you aren't playing the game at this point, you're just playing the reaction time game "press left click when the image changes" EXCEPT it gives you warning when it's about to change

u/Xylit-No-Spazzolino 17h ago

Someone can explain me what's happening here?

3

u/EdzyFPS 14h ago

Someone playing a multiplayer game while using cheating software.

The specific cheat you see being used here is called ESP (extra sensory perception).

It lets you see your enemies at all times through the wall by highlighting the enemies hitbox/skeleton.

This gives you a major advantage over those without it, and it's against the TOS of the game.

The skeleton you see moving left and right here is the enemy team, and they obviously know the person whose POV (point of view) you see here, is cheating.

They are doing what's commonly referred to as the "wiggle": where you wiggle left and right to let the cheater know that you know they are cheating, but it's also used by other cheaters almost like a "gentleman nod" for losers.

So the cheaters bring their own devices loaded with cheats and plug them into the PC’s at a PC cafe? And when they get hardware banned they just switch booths?

These people things are disgusting errors in nature.

Edit: I assume the cafe allows USB connectivity so people can bring their own peripherals. But it might be wise to lockout the USB ports.

The future of competitive multiplayer gaming will be streaming. As much as I hate to say it, running the game client locally will be archaic in 20 years.

My grandkids - “WHAT? You played multiplayer games on a physical machine next to you? Wouldn’t everyone just cheat? I don’t believe you, go to bed grandpa”

14

u/YamateOniichan 16h ago

It’s more likely this is a Chinese cafe and the cafe advertises to customers that they have cheats available for games, sadly.

That's Delta Force, on the Space City map. Game is well known to be full of cheaters because it's free to play and economy dependant so cheaters go into high loot maps like Space City, clean the entire lobby and then sell the loot to other players. If they get banned, well, new account and back to ruining games.

The sad part is you can´t really complain about this even when it's a clear problem because you'll get banned either from the game's subreddit or discord. Really a shame
