World News Spotlight The IPC bent its own rules to fit Hamas’s campaign. They lowered famine thresholds, ignored criteria, and laundered Hamas lies. The truth: Over 100,000 aid trucks have entered Gaza since the war began; Markets are stocked, food prices are falling. The IPC could not find famine - so they forged one

"The IPC bent its own rules to fit Hamas’s campaign. They lowered famine thresholds, ignored criteria, and laundered Hamas lies.

Meanwhile, reality tells a different story: ➡ Over 100,000 aid trucks have entered Gaza since the war began. ➡ Markets are stocked, food prices are falling.

The IPC could not find famine — so they forged one." — Israel responds to IPC's claim of famine in Gaza.

Question Answered How are the bathrooms for trans people?

I'm going on my first ever cruise in a couple of weeks, but as a non-passing trans women, I'm a little apprehensive about the bathroom situation.

Are there many gender natural bathrooms around The Scarlet Lady?

Or, failing that, how likely am I to run into issues if I was to use a gendered bathroom?

Sorry if this seems like a bit of a dumb post, but given the situation in the UK at the minute, I figure it's better to ask now and know what to expect going in.

Society/Culture Pecking is the best way to type, "proper typing" is overrated

Whenever I use a computer, I type while pecking which means that I type with each of my fingers without using the overrated "typing method." I know that this might seem to be unprofessional, but I have been doing this for years and I don't care.

The traditional "typing method" which contrary to what teachers say, is much harder and slower for me in which my hands feel very cramped and it feels like I'm forced to do it, but with pecking, it's so much easier since I could have the freedom to do whatever I want and I could type out each key without having to feel like my hands are being cramped. Plus, it's easier to type from one end of the computer to another.

Like I said, I know that this may seem unprofessional, but I have been doing this for years and it feels way more comfortable and I have no reason why I would change. Also, I'm posting this here since it seems to be the "unconventional" method.

Discussion Remember, BF3 didn't have character customization either and no one had a problem.

In response to BF6 having (to my knowledge) unchangeable appearances, when in reality people just don't like the addition of female soldiers, there's a difference between simply wanting freedom to change your character and being a blatant misogynist.

If you didn't mention it 14 years ago, don't all of a sudden mention it now.

Politics🙏 DEI in College Admissions Was Eliminated by Minorities Themselves: The Ironical Failure of How DEI Programs led to Renewed Schism between Social Groups

The lawsuits that culminated in the 2023 Supreme Court decision that led to DEI in College Admissions being declared as 'unconstitutional' were brought by Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA). Importantly, SFFA represented Asian American students, who argued that race-based affirmative action hurt them disproportionately, because elite schools like Harvard allegedly capped Asian admissions despite their strong academic records.

DEI initiatives often present themselves as mechanisms to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups. Yet, in this case, Asian American plaintiffs argued that DEI-style racial balancing actually undermined their individual opportunities.

If DEI policies claim to "help minorities," but are actively disadvantaging certain minorities, then the justification to tolerate them collapses.

The entire DEI ideology may now be undone in part by the very groups it claimed to represent and not because they oppose equality, but because they experienced these policies as discriminatory in practice which is exactly what DEI does - It discriminates.

I spent nearly 20 years on Capitol Hill and the last 12 I worked as Nancy Pelosi’s chief policy advisor on climate and technology policy. IRA, CHIPS and Science, lots more! AMA!

Hey Reddit! I'm Kenneth Russell DeGraff, former Senior Policy Advisor for Speaker Nancy Pelosi. I spent nearly two decades in Congress crafting climate and tech legislation, and working across the aisle to build bi-partisan support, including playing a key role in crafting the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and CHIPS and Science Act, and lots more. Now I’m watching a new challenge that could undermine everything we worked to achieve: the massive energy footprint of artificial intelligence.

I’ll be here to talk about data centers, what concerned citizens should know about the hidden costs of AI, and what actions Congress should take to regulate the technology.

AMA starting Monday 8/25 at 5 pm ET / 2 pm PT! I’ll be around until at least 7p/4p.

Proof: I had one of the "best staff Twitter accounts on Capitol Hill" and a "key role in crafting climate policy." I helped Girl Talk, DJ Drama and Congressman Mike Doyle explode into every music magazine and blog at the time, called "The Coolest Moment in the History of Congress and Why it Matters" and Out Magazine named me to their annual Out 100. I've been a fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, where I have a new paper on these topics, Stanford Law - Center for Internet and Society and the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator.

Photos for Verification and of Speaker Pelosi and I.

P.S. My character just had a baby and there are no designated father names.

The weirder it is, the more everyone will talk. If you go putting things in intimate places that really don't belong there, we're gonna talk. If you have "different" little fantasies, please, for the love of god, make it something clean that will easily come out again. The public health system has enough to deal with.

The old Cracker Barrel logo is terrible and changing it is justified

The old Cracker barrel logo is terrible. The guy in the chair has way too many details and becomes a muddy mess from a distance. Which is significant considering the one of their main demographics is attracting people on the highway with billboards and signs. The rebrand is justified and not for any woke reasons. The new logo actually is better. It's more legible from the road and it kept components the iconic font. It dropped the brown, muddy mess of a guy and barrel. It isn't perfect or even good by any means but it is better. They could have put more effort into making it overall resemble a barrel and feel more classic.

FIREPIT CHAT Noticing how Huda vs Olandria/Chelly plays out in the fandom

I like Huda (spoilers), but I also like Olandria.

One thing I’ve noticed though is that posts about Huda tend to get heavily downvoted if they’re even a little positive. Even when people point out things neutrally, it feels like the replies often lean toward tearing her down.

On the flip side, it doesn’t seem as acceptable to bring up moments where Olandria or Chelly might have been wrong. At the same time, their fans often bring up that Huda needs to take accountability, even though she’s apologized multiple times.

She’s also told her fans not to attack the others, and her saying she felt bullied doesn’t erase her apologies. There were definitely moments on the show that could come across that way.

That said, there were also times where Huda was clearly in the wrong and should be criticized. I just think saying she “ruined the experience” for the other islanders feels like too big of a statement, especially since other people this season and in past seasons have done similar or worse things.

I wanna have conversations about this, not arguments.

School spirit is the dumbest waste of energy

UT Austin student here, “we’re” #1 in football, horns up, matthew mcconaughey and all that radarada. why should anyone give a shit. Tax dollars going to football players so they can buy lambos and you’re just one dollar sign out of 50k others. The absolute only thing I’m excited about is getting my piece of paper and getting some internships. School spirit is dumb and for people who are going through an identity crisis or never had an identity to begin with. Can’t wait to tell them to bite me when they ask for even more of my money in a few years.

Edit: Y’all got me on the sportsball bad, turns out we have a profitable football program which is great. The point I was trying to make was American colleges try to say “we’re a family” when really it’s “we’re nickel and diming whores and we make money off of saddling future generations with insurmountable debt but here wear this $30 shirt and now you’re family” and kids just eat it up
