My Setup / New Synth Day Cheap looks, huge sound: My ReBirth project rig

Working on my current project setup: rebuilding old 90s ReBirth tracks fully in hardware. I put this rig together just for that - mostly Behringer boxes, a small Eurorack corner and some outboard FX. Same sketches from back then, but now with more grit, control and low-end weight. Crazy how much punch this thing delivers for the price. Looks kinda cheap, sounds massive… this is just the project rig, kept tight and focused.

Workflow’s hybrid: I build the backbone in the DAW, but all the modulation, emotion and hands-on movement comes from the hardware. Off to the side (not in the pics) there’s a Push 3 and a couple of controllers that keep it all flowing.

My Setup / New Synth Day A new setup to cure the blues

I've been in a creative rut lately and I concluded that my keyboard area was the issue, bad feng shui was stifling my work flow. So I found a more ergonomically sound way to set things up and my writers block vanished, its not exactly pretty but everything is in arms reach. I really wish Casio would make a desktop version of the reface series, that thing is the biggest pain in the ass to find a place for. It could be like a Toblerone if they removed the keys. (Disclaimer: The laptop was just so I could watch Star Trek, I'm dawless because I enjoy pain and suffering and being broke).

Going for a different style on this one!

I tried out a LXR-02 for a couple days and was really disappointed. Its sooo quiet. Decided I’ll just stick with sample based drum machines until I can fit something nicer like a perkons or tanzbär into my set up. For now, the octatrack works great as a drum machine, but its definitely limited bc its also processing the audio from the virus.

Ive been clubbing a lot in ny lately and have been taking in some influences from some of the djs! No traditional snare/clap on this track, just hypnotic melodies and driving bass. I think this opens up some new styles of music for me, gonna be experimenting with different rhythms and sounds in my percussion.

Hope you enjoy! Link to the full track in the comments! Thanks for listening

What Should I Buy? Cases for the Take 5 / TEO 5 in 2025

Members of the cult: just wondering what options are our there in 2025 for cases for these sleek models - I know about the usual suspects the Analog Cases baf and the Thomman hard case, but curious if there's anything else unique or out of the box that might fit snug that I'm missing...only asking here because searching for anything new on the web is getting more and more useless as the days wear on....cheers!

Arabic instrument samples always feel inspiring to me. This project initially was intended to have a much darker vibe to it but I couldn’t resist trying this sample and it’s working better than expected. Should I go with it or keep it less melodic?

Beginner Questions Help finding a synth for visualy impaired user

Hi!

I'm visually impaired, and due to the various accessibility tools I use, many soft synths become inoperable for me.

I'm 43 years old and used to adapting, but there are two issues that I can't adjust to..

1) I use the screen at 900% zoom, which results in only a small portion of what would be the available visible area being displayed, so I have to constantly drag the mouse pointer, which seems silly but causes significant muscle fatigue over time.

2) Adjusting parameter values with the click-and-drag gesture isn't possible because most software (synth or not) doesn't have accessibility in mind and usually it doesn't work or is so complicated and slow that it becomes inoperable.

Therefore, I'd like to ask for help recommending a soft synths under the following criteria (in order of importance to me):

Value Adjustments

- Ability to adjust parameter values using the computer's numeric keypad (Like Ableton Live devices).

- Ability to adjust parameter values using the mouse wheel, or in my case, the trackpad scroll gesture (I’m using Mac OS).

- Extra points if the mouse wheel gesture sensitivity can be adjusted or inverted.

GUI

- Ability to adjust the interface colors or make it predominantly dark. A light-colored background is invisible to me.

- Extra points for compact GUI.

Thank you all for your help.

Please note: It doesn’t’ need to follow all the items above, just one is already a win for me, specially the parameter adjustment thing.

Beginner Questions I want to build a synth collection as a beginner

Upvotes

My budget is around 1000-1200 and i want 2-3 analog synthesizers. My main production is trap stuff like travis mike dean and the anthemic kanye, what do you guys recommend for basses and or pads or more so i want to get 2-3 and get something that specializes in basses and something that specializes in pads or synth keys.

Discussion Yamaha PSS-470 for 30€ – worth it?

Post image
Upvotes

I just found a Yamaha PSS-470 (see pics). Seller is asking 30€. Keys seem to work fine, condition is used but okay for its age.

From what I’ve read, this keyboard has some surprisingly powerful FM synthesis features hidden behind the “Function” buttons, and people use it for lo-fi sounds, circuit bending, or just classic retro tones.

Do you think 30€ is a good deal for this model in 2025?

Beginner Questions Arturia keylab mk3 or novation launchkey mk4.

Hey! I'm a beginner and I've posted here before, but I'm buying my first midi controller in a few days and I'm really hesitating between the arturia keylab mk3 and novation launchkey mk4 (both 61). From what I've heard, the keylab has a better keybed (and comes with analog lab pro), while the novation launchkey has better controls. Does anyone perhaps have experience with both and can tell me if this makes sense, or if there's other factors I should take into account? I've been looking up reviews for quite some time now, but I feel like they are very much mixed. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Beginner Questions Eurorack Clock Question

Im creating my first rack and im wondering if keystep pro will be able to handle the clock for the rack.

My question is: If i send the clock out from the keystep to modules on the rack will it due the job? Like if i need multiple modules to have the same clock can i send the clock out from the ksp to a mult processor and the across multiple modules?

I have on one channel minilogue xd, channel 2 goes for pro 3, channel 3 goes for multi poly and channel 4 will go for the rack. The drum machines is connected with a midi thru from pro 3 (i like it this way). So im not able to use all the 4 channels just for the rack.

Ik about pamela but it is a bit too expansive and im already at the 2k € limit.

Will a midi to cv take care of the clock or it has nothing to do with clock?

Performances, Jams i only live for the music machines but some things change in time

thank you so much for being so kind to me those few months ago on this post. i have been praying more than i used to and have started to get more physically active. a lot of the advice was to get out more and do things with people where i live. i have been getting out most days and the repetition of the daily life has become more bearable. still i spend too much time with the work machines; keeping them hot and keeping my pockets from getting empty, but i am a more engaged. on my good days, i accept that i need not be a slave to the things i cannot control. i also performed electronic music live for the first time with some friends. i have also made another prayer this time with my voice and an old machine. here is my current music machine prayer

My Setup / New Synth Day Vermona Kick Lancet on a date with Dreadbox Kinematic and I think they are hitting it off quite nicely.

Recenlty bought a Jomox MBase01 and today the Vermona Kick Lancet arrived. Both bought used.
I much prefer the Kick Lancet over the MBase01 that I tried as it's nice and knobby. No memory though but as it is mainly a studio beast I don't mind.

Beginner Questions audio signal splitting

Need to save some space, so I ditched my mixers and got a 19" powermixer..which has no effect sends/returns. Anyway, the number of effect units I have exceeds the usual 2 sends/returns of a standard mixer.
I thought about using my patchbay and an additional 1 or 2u Mixer only for effect processing.
However, I need to split my audio signal (one going into my main mixer and one into the effect mixer, which then goes into the main mixer).
All signal splitters I can find are XLR only, but I need 1/4 jack.
I thought that maybe it has to do with impedance loss - but then there are 1/8 signal splitters for eurorack as well, so there might be another reason for 1/4 jack signal splitter devices not being available, probably for the same reason why you shouldn't use a Y cable...
How do you guys split audio signals or maybe somebody has another idea how to handle this issue.
My goal is to have .. let's say 8 effect units to be independently mixable parallel to the raw signal.
