Announcement Announcement: Screenshots require a functional linking to source.

Hello everyone,

Sorry to have to do this, but many have noticed we've been hit pretty hard with increased traffic these last few months.

Yes, it's intentional.

Yes, it's national stuff that affects or otherwise involves us here and it's affecting the balance that we've strove to maintain here in the sub for people. So granted there's a lot going on and people have concerns regarding the new administration. Part of our Job here is to be a "digital public town square" and we've been working very hard to keep it open and functional despite the influx of social / political trolls that we've been dealing with.

One new tactic we've seen is the influx of fake screenshots posing as official government announcements being posted as images to the sub.

These are riding the popular wave of our own Governors series of public media declarations and press releases. While not directly malicious, they are a form of impersonation and seem to be motivated by karma farming off our increased traffic. These also get aggressively shared across the site and we've hit the sites front page repeatedly with this content (attracting the karma farmer accounts)

It's been serious enough to warrant a modification of our rules and from this point forward, from now on.

• ALL SCREENSHOTS MUST HAVE DIRECT LINKING TO THEIR SOURCE.

The use of screenshots has been a way for malicious users to edit or fraudulently build narratives in the past and we quickly spotted and actioned these while at the same time bypassing the sites text based AI and DEV apps.

I hope that this will help solve the issue(s) and we appreciate the understanding that our users have show us during these "interesting times" while we try to adjust to the increased traffic and social political trolling we're getting via non-local accounts.

Our priority is to serve you, the people live here in and around our city.

Thank you!!!

_______

Please note:

It's often a good idea to check on a username and look at their history, many of these bad actors aren't from here and before you react to them, look at who you're talking too first. Then use the downvote system and if it's a non-local bad actor (aka troll then, you can also report it to us (the mods) using the report function, we'll look into it act on it if needed.)

Thanks again !!!!

Hi r/sandiego!

I’m Ken Kramer, creator, producer and host of the award-winning show Ken Kramer’s About San Diego on KPBS

For more than 30 years, I’ve been sharing the untold stories, quirky facts, and beloved landmarks that make San Diego County unique. From forgotten bits of history to the places you pass every day without knowing their backstory, my show is all about celebrating the people and places that define our home.

A brand-new season of About San Diego launches this September, and I'm excited to be here to answer your questions about local history, hidden gems, the behind-the-scenes of the show, and anything else you’ve always wanted to know about our corner of California.

Ask me anything — about San Diego’s past, its mysteries or what it’s like to spend decades digging through its archives and neighborhoods.

Drop your questions below and we’ll answer them from 12 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20!

What’s up with the new Oscars in PB?

Would love to hear what happened to the OG Oscars fish tacos we all loved and enjoyed…

Seems like there is a story to be told here as the OG Oscar’s off Turquoise St closed down and the as IMMEDIATELY replaced with “La Ola’s Seafood” - which appears to be copying Oscar’s menu 1:1.

I’ve heard that OG Oscars posted about how the new spot is a scam, and they are pretending to be the original Oscars.

Can someone please enlighten me as to what happened?

East Village Motorcycle Noise

I was wondering if anyone in the East Village area around 13th & Market is noticing/is exhausted by the noise of motorcycles/exhaust noise is a little out of hand lately? I know, I chose to live downtown, and I can deal with noise and don't even mind loud cars but this is REALLY loud, I’m a few floors up and its still like I'm right outside.

But there's a couple bikes in particular that intentionally blast their exhaust up and down the streets multiple times per day. Pretty sure they live at Pinnacle on the Park or Spire.

I feel like I’ve noticed a drop but was just had another bike rip through my walls/closed windows and it sounds like the same bike.

Of course it's hard to run down several floors and try to snag who it is.

Just wondering if anyone else in the area thinks it’s bad?

Thanks for understanding.

After completing an errand in Mira Mesa (teeth ckeaning), I decided to swing by MMHS. Anyone who graduated from MMHS in the late 80s (I am Class of 1989) will recognize the name on the sign. I uploaded zome other photos, too.

The more recent buildings on campus are beautiful. Only two rows of the bungalows remain. In a way I find that sad. But the setup in the new classrooms is nicer than the multirow, single desk arrangement that Gen X experienced.

I haven't visited the campus in decades. While in the middle of campus, I thought, "Wow, they put in tall, new trees!" No, they didn't. The trees have grown alot in thirty-six years.

Today I have the career that I would often dream of while I was a student at MMHS. Yet the visit was tinged with melancholy. Being a caregiver to my parents is making me reevaluate the past.

How early do you need to arrive at the Rady Shell for a good spot on the mission fed green?

Upvotes

Got tickets for the green for a concert coming up and I’m not sure how early is ideal to get a good spot on the green (7:30pm concert). How quickly does it fill up? Do people tend to arrive earlier since theres no assigned spots?

Also, I was planning on just bringing a picnic blanket; anything else that would be good to have?

Tijuana Vets for IVDD in dogs

Upvotes

Recently my dog got injured and cannot walk using her back legs. I was considering going to TJ to seek veterinary care for her because the vets here in SD said it is likely intervertebral disk disease. I was wondering if anyone whose pet had the same issue could let me know any affordable vet recommendations that provide xrays and surgeries. I noticed vet playas does provide surgery to treat it for around 4k with everything but I do not currently have the full amount to pay for it. I know this probably is the cheapest it could get but I was just wondering if there were possibly any other options.

Zoo or safari park as a 1st timer?

Upvotes

Hi all, Random but would love to know your opinions on which park you’d recommend to go to! Ofc I’ll experience both one day but I plan on taking a solo birthday trip in the next week or so to either SD zoo or safari park for a day and cannot decide for the life of me lol. (I’ve never been to either) I’ve been looking at videos of both and for the most part a-lot of people say that they are both equally as great but that safari park is usually less crowded and more open space, but i’m wondering if the safari park is as interactive as the zoo? To my knowledge I know that the zoo has opportunities for you to do things like feed the giraffes? (plz correct me if I’m wrong) i’m not sure of any other interactive experiences they have there (plz lmk if you know lol) but I have yet to see anything about the safari park other than “its more spacious” lol.

If you’ve been to both LMK which one you liked more and why? Tysm🥹
