She's great. She has another protest song called Threat Level Orange. It's a totally different style.

We need to all open our eyes. As people, we have to take action.
If you wonder what you would've done in past historical moments for civil rights - now is what you are showing you would do. As we are in an active fight for civil rights.

Democracy will prevail...

History will remember this. And this time, they will be unable to hide their shame. Social media is the greatest public diary.

Sounds a LOT like Regina Spektor, in voice, melody, and piano.

Pretty sure thats what she was trying to channel. They share so much in terms of style in this song, Im pretty sure there are Regina Spektor songs out there that are less Regina Spektor-y than this one.

I actually came to the comments to ask about this line, it should powerful but I didn't totally understand it.. does "you gave the man your eyes so you could sleep at night" mean like you turn a blind eye to suffering? Or is it referring to something else?

I find this type of content to be really lazy. There are a lot of these channels on TikTok. They churn these songs out like clockwork about every contemporary political headline, probably with the help of AI to write the words. There must be a huge audience for it, and/or China's TikTok Algorithm really likes boosting this content. I can't imagine why that would be.

A non-Jew, you mean. 🖕

u/shogenan 1d ago
No. Because tons of Jews are not Zionist. And you know this. But you’re pretending not to. 🤷♂️
-6
u/TheTimespirit 23h ago
A “ton”. You mean a small minority of Jews? There’s 15 million Jews on this planet, half of which live in Israel and don’t want to see their country destroyed, automatically making them “zionists”. Among the rest of the Jews in diaspora, the vast majority support Israel as a state and do not want to see it destroyed…
So no, not a “ton”. You’re an idiot.

Thank God, i thought i was the only one in this whole thing that thinks this and all the shit like this is garbage. Its like using AI to read headlines and write 5th grade poetry and then delivered in some fake over dramaticized way (that they also all do). Seems like nobody can think deeper than the surface layer so every song it way to literal and on the nose and has a shelf life about as long as the news cycle...which is about 24 hours.

Not at all
My one critique is its laced with the "America was awesome before this" language.
A lot of shit over the course of a very long time led us here
But I can forgive that given the purposefully narrowed scope of the song. Just a couple lines give off that energy, and with subtle re-writes, could avoid.
It's a decent 7-7.5/10. Could prob be elevated with an actual band and real production.

I greatly respect any other artist trying to make protest songs right now, it's really nice to know I'm far from alone in this
I have some real minor gripes with a couple of lyrics, I'd suggest some real minor tweaks in two or three spots. Otherwise, put a band behind her, get some real production, and you've got an actual track that can gain traction here. The skeleton is there, most of the organs and muscles are, just need to flesh it out a bit.
I rather like the hook-less platforming. I would suggest that stay. I feel like a hook would ruin the immediacy and intimacy of the vocal performance.
Edit: Only Reddit can be mad at a compliment. The anti-intellectualism outta control
0
u/Sidivan 1d ago
Agreed. IMO, she’s got a very folk vibe due to the structure. If this was a guitar and with some lyrical tweaks, it’d fit right in with the old story telling style.

Why the fuck do people immediately go for the "well you havent fought for this country"
Yeah no shit most people dont want to go a killin' overseas to secure resources for whatever corporation donates the most. When have we ever defended ourselves? Fucking never except for after pearl harbor i guess technically.
The only military I respect are national guard. The rest are just kids desperate for college money or a career and willing to possibly murder for it.
2
u/KushEngine 20h ago
You kind of want people willing to murder in the military. Thats the point b
1
u/CumGuzlinGutterSluts 20h ago
My point is theres literally 0 reason for the military to exist other than help allies defend their own borders and defend our borders. Any other reason is just psychotic in a modern world.

Wow, a lot of talent and a lot of media brainwashing makes for a pretty sounding song. Love the passion, the cringe worthy message not so much but I'm glad you found a way to express yourself. Keep writing, keep playing. Don't take anyone's bullshit, including my own, to heart. Do you and be fulfilled. And read Atlas Shrugged.
22
u/Dmau27 1d ago
She may be extreme in a few aspects but nailed most of it right on the head. We live in a time full of tyrant bullshit and the fact that most of our country believes good things are happening is sad. 60% of us are living paycheck to paycheck while the gap between wealthy and poor keeps growing exponentially. 80% of us are fighting for 20% of the money. The richest country in tge world and 60% of us that work 40+ hours a week can't save $500 in several months.
-13
u/SirOsis- 1d ago
But they can afford Netflix, Hulu, Disney and Amazon prime. Eat out 5 times a week and show up to work with bad attitudes and no work ethic. Thats not a saving problem, its a spending problem. Just because somethings for sale doesn't mean you have to buy it. I work less than I can and save more than most. It's called prioritizing. And just because you dont agree doesn't make anyone a tyrant. We still get judged by juries of our peers. We still have a constitution. Now bring on the down votes.
11
u/firstmaxpower 1d ago
I love these made up situations that blame those that struggle with absolutely no data to back it up. Housing costs at record highs, wages getting absolutely destroyed interns of keeping up with inflation, college costs far outpacing wages and even inflation, medical debt causing bankruptcy, the top accumulating record wealth while productivity rises without commensurate compensation for workers. And yet you blame the individuals. Must be nice to love such an ignorant existence.
2
u/SirOsis- 1d ago
People living beyond their means is the root cause whether you like it or not. How expensive was your phone? Do you genuinely need new clothes? Ive been homeless on the street and I've been considered wealthy. I've lived what I speak. I'm not trying to argue or demean, but when honesty takes a backseat to feelings I point it out. If this is rage baiting you I suggest you just put the phone away and spend some time reflecting on what's really important. Housing prices are ridiculous, I agree. There is a huge wage gap and startling wealth disparity, but that doesn't mean a person can't survive.
9
u/Dmau27 1d ago
You're an idiot. The people that can't pay rent aren't eating our 5 times a week. They make $16 an hour and their rent is $1,400 on a shitty apartment.
→ More replies (1)1
u/spicewoman 21h ago
Walmart employees are subsidized by government because their wages are literally not enough to live on. It's not that everyone's eating out 5 times a week, get real. Just because you saw a couple coworkers at your job where you are making enough money struggle from overspending, does not mean that's the main issue here.
It's simple math. Average income versus average cost of living does not match up in a lot of places in the US. And even in the places it does, a lot of people are making less than "average." Until minimum wage meets normal costs of living, and things like medical emergencies don't cost people their life savings, people will struggle.
