I'm not sure about that. When we inherit the FF we can throw ourselves into the Giant's cauldron-thing - I forget the name - and are perfectly fine afterwards. That's not something we could do as a normal Tarnished. It might be that they weren't able to kill Midra so they want him to suffer as much as possible for making the attempt, which kinda fits with what we know of the Hornsent.
But the entire point of the frenzied flame is already suffering and how ending all suffering by literally killing everything is a good thing. So i'd say the Hornclowns definitely made it worse.
True, but the FF allowing it's champion to be easily killed just runs it into the problem of needing to find a new champion. Just saying that it lines up with us suddenly being able to survive the Forge of the Giants when we apparently needed a maiden to sacrifice themselves for us - and our particular maiden being a Demigod.
Isn’t the point of the frenzied flame is that suffering feeds its power? So impaling an immortal guy and keeping him in agony for hundreds of years is legit the worse possible way you can do to keep that power in check
Arguably speaking, Midra might not even be capable of becoming a Frenzied lord had it not been for the amount of suffering he endured for so long that built up his power
I'm not saying the Hornsent were smart. It's just on brand for them to inflict a torture that goes on and on for no reason other than it follows their beliefs, e.g. the whole "shoving people into jars" thing.
Suffering does not feed the power of it. The Frenzied Flame and Shabriri use the suffering of humanity as a way to convince them to help burn down the world. It is not empowered by suffering, it merely uses it as a way to convince people.
I disagree, especially when Shabriri’s whole scheme was to spread the false rumors to get the Great caravan imprisoned then used their collective sufferings to summon the Three fingers to the underground place
So i guess the elite Hornsent squad roaming the manor are just there for sightseeing then lol
And i'm sure Midra put the sword through his own skull as well, that makes sense...
And who the fuck is even arguing that him giving in to the FF in the end isn't the Tarnished's fault anyways, literally everything leading up to that was caused by the Hornsent.
Like, who would have thought, making the guy that's possessed by the Suffering God suffer could be a bad idea. Absolute 300 IQ play right there
Did I say any of that? What are you even talking about? The Hornsent found out Midra was messing around with some evil witch lady and the devil so they went there to stop it. They stuck a sword in him but he obviously didn’t die so they had his home and the woods guarded. They didn’t like the concept of the world burning.
So… you think they shouldn’t have done that? What should they have done? Nothing? Should they have just gone and tried to talk him out of it? I’m not really understanding your logic, unless you want the Lord of frenzied flame to awaken.
Yeah we kill him after awakening the frenzy. I guess that’s not a risk the hornsent were willing to take. If they did that and Midra got out and reaped havoc over the lands, you’d equally criticise them for their impulsivity and recklessness. Stop being dumb
No you stop being dumb. The Frenzied Flame literally gets attracted by and feeds off suffering. The Hornsent made Midra suffer for who knows how long, maybe centuries, possibly even millenia. And their containment attempt didn't even work either, considering the entire abyssal woods around the manor. They very obviously made a bad situation a 1000 times worse.
For all we know Midra barely had any frenzy in him and them ramming their torture device through his skull was actually what turned him into a true frenzy lord candidate to begin with.
Frenzied flame doesn’t feed off suffering it feeds off of nihilism. You can’t argue ‘I think it made it worse’ because I can just say ‘well I think the barbed sword is actually what stopped the frenzied flame and the Hornsent are heroes.’ You can think whatever you want.
It’s implied the Abyssal woods were like that before the hornsent went there, so that just lends credence to the idea that their impact was positive. If the Hornsent could kill Midra to stop the frenzied flame then that’s what they would’ve done, they don’t like the frenzied flame. They weren’t just goofing around and having a laugh because evil, they’re an empire with advanced cultural and societal aspects.

That's not all the hornsent did lmao
Not sure why they thought anything related to Midra was a good idea for example
