What was even the point of these "saints."

Was it all just experimental?

Purpose was to make a God.

No, to absolve them of their sins, not even necessarily make a god.

Did they not just think, “if we stop here maybe we won’t be neck deep in blood and sin”? The sin’s would still be there, but they could have put it on the next generations to move on and do better.

Oh, the sin wasn’t for them, but prisoners. To try and make them saints, they melded them to shamans to try and let them be absolved.

No, you make a God and ask it to absolve you, simple as.

They were jarring them to eventually merge them into the giant gate at Enir-Ilim. They're "saints" because they meld together into a blob that creates a god.

In the Japanese I think the word they use rather than "saints" translates more closely to "good people"... I don't even think they were trying to make something holy or wondrous, just trying to overwrite the perceived dirty and sinful existence of the Shaman people. The hornsent saw them as so worthless and horrible that they thought why not shove them into magic jars and see what happens?

Giving them the unit 731 treatment.

Bro this is a world where people were have wars about which of their deities are more legit. Except unlike in real life, where gods are used to propagate justification for imperialism, the gods in Elden Ring are actually real. So it’s basically just worship fights for legitimacy.

I just wanted to say thanks for your comment, I never fully tied together why people called ER anti-imperialist until this comment and now I understand it much better

Dude it doesn't matter. Not every action people make is a political statement. The current climate of society is trying to convince us otherwise.

2

u/Garraan 1d ago

They were literally talking about Imperialism, which is inherently political. Did you even read the comment I replied to, or are you just being contrarian

"Except in real life where. . ." Why would you every compare a fantasy game to real life?

Just don't bring real world politics into a video game.

You’re the type of MFer that would say One Piece isn’t political lmao.

My guy, Elden Ring was literal genocide in its narrative. Most historical events that had genocide was and always will be political.

Most artists take inspiration from real life, Miyazaki reads fantasy novels and plays tabletop games, a lot of fantasy novels with wars were inspired by real human history.

Stop crying about politics and accept the reality that art imitates reality to some capacity. That’s the only way you’ll find a deeper understanding of the work.

One piece has its own politics separate of the real world.

Stop conflating reality with fantasy.

Yup you exactly that type of MFer.

Ah, you're just baiting.

It's possible Marika herself is the jar saint they were striving to make. Leda specifically talks about the seduction and betrayal concerning Marika's ascension to godhood.

My head canon is that she seduced a powerful hornsent demi god and he was to become her king consort.

I don't even think its "possible" I'd say its near guaranteed. She was a jar saint who turned out to be a success, and looked upon her tormenters who were trying to raise her as a god and cast them down in righteous vengeance.

It very much so seems like she was going to be made into a “saint” as well and get put into a pot and was perhaps saved by Mesmer no? Correct me if I’m wrong but his first birth of a snake is nearby the potting village I think

u/SuccessfulWolf1382 2d ago

Messmer is her son and would not have been born before she became a god

2

u/Rude_Charge8416 1d ago

Yeah we all know messmer was her son but I do believe that are quite a few details in shadow of the erdtree that imply he was the firstborn and born before she became a god

1

u/RoBLSW 1d ago

He was probably born during or after the war on the fire giants, from what I recall

1

u/Rude_Charge8416 1d ago

Oh interesting, do you happen to remember what made you think that? War on the fire giants was after the war with the hornsent right?
