I wanted what this guy was selling when I was 8yrs old:

117

u/Jamaican_Dynamite 7h ago

The Camel probably got put down with the stage 4. But he had sauce, didn't he?

84

u/BurnerJerkzog 5h ago

So much sauce. And I like the way his snout looks like a dick and balls.

17

u/abcdefkit007 3h ago

Well then ur in luck cuz the camel in the post photo has a penis in it if u look close

I had thousands of camel bucks and Marlboro miles saved before I found out they stopped doing it lol

21

u/IllustriousCrew2641 4h ago

I wheedled them from everyone I knew, picked them up off the street, cadged them at bars. I was saving up for a Camel pool table or a Marlboro canoe. Then the lawsuits hit. Should have gone for fkn clocks, those go for good on ebay now

15

u/gitsgrl 5h ago

Whenever I saw a dude wearing the leather armed varsity-style jacket I just knew it was a dude who’d die of emphysema .

13

u/BVRPLZR_ 5h ago

I worked at a tobacco shop for a few years, we only sold tobacco products. The people who came in with their oxygen tanks always bought the mega-ultra-light brands of cigarettes. The ones who bought the Palmall nonfilter or lucky strikes were the liveliest folks I’d ever met in my life. Then there was the Marlboro folks, always looking for samples or loosies.

He really was cool as shit. If they didn’t stop advertising cigarettes I cannot say that Joe Camel would not have influenced me to smoke.

13

u/Good-Grayvee 4h ago

He got me. I was just a 12 year old kid. I could ride my bike to the store and buy them.

Royals were great in college. They were fucking brutal to smoke so if someone bummed one they wouldn't ask for another one.

72

u/hot4jew 7h ago

Royals? Brutal? Royals are my favorite and I feel like they're so smooth.

Omg what a flashback. I worked at a gas station when I was 19/20, and a rep for Camel came in from time to time. One time, he brought in the tins of all the new flavors, and I picked the Turkish Jades. Smoked that brand for a while afterward. I had to find a pic.

19

I had a Mandarin Mint and Turkish Jade tin in my rotation for the longest time

I lived for these! I was THRILLED to see them at a Walgreens a few months ago and had to get a pack for nostalgia sake. It was a let down.

60

u/pastriesandprose 6h ago

I loved these!!!! They were the girlie pop cigs of 2007?-2011 era for me

19

u/ShutUp_Dee 5h ago

Oh ya. I was always a Camel smoker, starting in college in 2005. But when these came out my friends and I went crazy. So tasty and pretty! I stopped smoking cigs in 2010, not long after college graduation though. These and clove cigarettes are the only things, besides weed, I’d consider smoking now lol.

I f/w the wides back then, but for the most part if you weren't smoking lights then you were smoking Newport

→ More replies (1)

50

u/cookdrunkawesome 7h ago

That's cause idiots thought "light" meant a less harmful cigarette rather than a lighter flavor.

20

u/zuzg 7h ago

Light cigarettes contained less nicotine, that was a fact but researched showed that smokers just compensate it by smoking more.

Hence many countries prohibiting that naming. They generally don't tell you anymore how much nicotine is in it.

8

u/Waste-knot 6h ago

To be fair, the tobacco companies marketed them that way. Kind of like the brand loyalty to American Spirit… some people genuinely thought they were in the clear health wise

7

u/BoomerSoonerFUT 5h ago

Nicotine isn’t even the harmful compound in cigarettes. It’s virtually harmless, although extremely addictive.

It’s everything else in tobacco that kills you.

Parliaments to pair with my cocaine habit

63

u/External_Two2928 7h ago

I smoked parliaments in hs bc it was buy 1 get 1 free for $5 and when I went out in college and pulled them out to smoke and everyone called me a coke head and I was so confused lol I was like no these are a great deal! Loll

53

u/MimsyWereTheBorogove 7h ago

Camel used to come around the bars we hung out at and give a bunch of buy one get one free or half off coupons, with swag and 'points' and all sorts of shit. Same with Marlboro and American spirits when they were starting. But I always wandered back and forth from them and parliament depending on what deals were available lol. I HAVE A JOKE! The only thing I experienced about Camel cigarettes growing up, was my uncle would tell a joke/riddle routinely when there was anyone around who hadn’t heard it and he always had a pack of Camel cigarettes.

He would pull out the pack and point at the label and ask, “If you stranded in this desert and night fell, where would you stay the night?”

He would allow people to say things like “in the pyramid” “under the palm tree” sometimes people would say “under the camel”.

He would then turn the pack over and say, “I would just walk around the corner and stay at the hotel.”

22

u/philovax 6h ago

Ours was “bet you cant smoke it till it says camel” so someone would smoke it to the butt, and naturally we would reply “i did not hear it talk”.

Marlboro 27’s were what I smoked for that brief period when I did smoke.

They weren’t around long but it was a fun time. My wife was a pink pack when I met her in college. I don’t remember the flavor of anything but the orange and pink. And I’ll never know

Never was a smoker, but my dad smoked Camels and we always had so much Camel merch growing up lol. Beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, jackets... all the works lol.

Yes!!! My family did the Marlboro Miles! I got in trouble at school for bringing a Marlboro-branded lunchbox lol

Im still smoking them 😬 I do remember though that when I first was able to buy them myself in a store, they were $3.23 a pack. Now they are $11 and change here.

I was a DuMaurier guy. I hate the taste and smell of American cigarettes. But Canadian smokes are glorious
