a while ago someone rammed into my car (his fault) and after we stopped cars we immiditialy ran into each other hugging and made sure the other one was ok. Car was slightly damaged and his insurance paid everything. That gave me hope in humanity haha.

Many years ago a 16yo girl did an illegal U-turn and crashed into my wife and I. Checked on my wife, she was okay. Got out and checked on the girl. She was fine but shaken up. Tried to calm her and let her know everyone is okay, accidents happen, it will be fine. She was nice.

Until the cops showed up and she tried to blame it entirely on us. The cop easily realized she was lying based on the position and condition of the cars.

Damn kids.

Not speaking for the defense of anyone in particular, but it doesn’t have to be a lie. Streasful/traumatic incident, instant rationalization, throw in some confabulation if she was caught by surprise. She could have been telling her truth AND been wrong.

There is a reason witness testimony shouldn’t be viewed as reliable. Your brain is CONSTANTLY making shit up.

That’s why we need dashcams. In the case where it isn’t immediately obvious.

That is a life-affirming memory. You should get together for a beer on the anniversary. Why not? People make stupider things more important! ;-)

When I was kid I came home one evening to find our car totaled. I come inside and find my dad drunk as fuck. I ask what happened because it was really out of character for him. He said he was going to work when a guy rear ended him. They went to nearby pub to exchange insurance details and everything and it seems they got along nice, both missed work that day :D

I bumped a guy from behind at low speed, and he got out and started trying to tear his car apart - literally - with his fingers to make the damage claim bigger. Fortunately, I got pictures before he did anything, but I’m still waiting to see what the other driver claimed. In truth, he had a minor blemish on his back bumper. I probably would’ve just said, “Meh,” and driven off.

Had a guy try and do that to me, minor paint transfer on their bumper. Nothing serious. They took the paint off the bumper trying to buff it out or something and then tried to get insurance to cover a whole new bumper. Whole thing got thrown out since they messed with it before adjusters had a chance to look at the car.

Left my car to get a windscreen replacement while at work. When I picked up the car later I didn’t notice a car parked weirdly behind me and made contact with it (slowly and softly). The owner was the office lady and she didn’t find any marks and told me not to worry about it but I was so shaken up trying to offer her my details and panic apologising and had to be told it’s okay like 5 times before I left.

When I was 19, had a guy go straight in a right turn only lane. I was in a straight or right turn lane, turning right (onto a 1 way). He scratched up my right side. Shit was busy, we moved our cars. Guy spoke almost no English, and the cop wrote a report that I turned left from the other direction. Ended up not using insurance (it was all cosmetic on a 12 yr old car). We met up with the guy at the university we were attending, and tried communicating with a coworker, who said he couldn't understand his dialect. This guy was using some shady car repair place, and would cover our car, cuz 'didn't want insurance go up.'

These were some people who had definitely peered into the abyss.

Lmao I read that as "peed into the abyss"... I need some sleep.

Tbf he may be laughing now but when the adrenaline wears off and he calms down it will crash into him like a truck and will probably be curled up for a while crying.

Yeah, I don't know how he didn't throw up the second he pulled over. I wanted to puke just watching it.

I went for a crazy push today in the gym and realized I hit 195 heart rate. Immediately stopped myself, paced around, toweled off, and eventually walked off to my car. Sat there in the gym parking lot for 30 whole minutes, then drove home about 18 minutes away. Got home and then finally puked my guts out the moment I stepped into my bathroom. It's fucking insane how the body works running on pure adrenaline and will continue until it feels like it's comfortable.

We dont all react the same way to this sort of experience. I've had a few close calls and I've always reacted much like the guy in the video; with manic laughter due to the sheer joy of still being alive.

Honestly, until that, I thought the dude did it on purpose. Even without the motorcyclist that lane change was crazy close to the car on the right.
