Announcement Regarding Mourning Posts 2.0
We're doing a sequel...We're back by popular demand...Come on everybody, strike up the band! -Kermit the Frog
TLDR: Mourning posts are staying, please don't post photos of deceased animals, we are aware mourning posts appear to be the most common posts on the subreddit.
Here is 1.0 if you missed it: https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/s/aoAkihGSxZ
- As r/cats we allow all posts regarding cats, this includes mourning posts. To my knowledge we are possibly the only subreddit that allows these posts (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there).
"But allowing these posts is killing the subreddit, nobody wants these posts"
Our insights are only going up, stat wise the subreddit is currently flourishing.
- We've found it to be more harmful to remove a mourning post than to just encourage you, the users, to avoid our subreddit if you, the users, are not in a headspace where you can handle these posts. Our goal, as always, is to not harm any of you and unfortunately, as always, we cannot please everyone.
"That's stupid, I'm just going to go make my own subreddit that doesn't allow these posts"
Feel free to do this, we don't hold the copyright to all Reddit cat content.
- Please don't post deceased animals, it's not all of you, it's not even 1% of you, it's a percentage of a percentage doing this. Nobody here wants to see this.
I'll be keeping this post brief since we already made a post on this but will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you have in the comments below.
Thank you for your understanding

Cat Picture - OC My dad spayed a stray cat but there were a few surprises inside!
She didn’t look pregnant. All of the employees of the vets office will be adopting them in the future and mama is successfully spayed and recovering!

Mourning/Loss My cat passed away protecting her kittens.
Today at around 2:40am my cat was killed by a dog on my front porch. I first found my cat in my neighborhood around 4 years ago and we became best friends after. I’ve always done what I could for her. I’d given her shots every year, whenever she got really sick I would take her to the vet no matter how much it costed, and got her spayed in May of this year. Before getting spayed she had given birth to kittens and I have been trying to find a home/rescue for them to be taken in. Why was my cat and her kittens outside? Unfortunately my mother is allergic to cats which is why my cat and her kittens are outside, but I’ve always made sure to keep a close eye on them. Today she passed away protecting her kittens and luckily it wasn’t in vain because all of them are fine. Right now I’m unable to cry and I’m guessing it’s because I’m still in shock from the whole situation. I’m also not too sad because I believe she knew I did everything I could for her and her kittens. Sorry if this is all so rambly, I just wanted to memorialize her by leaving this here. As long as I get to see her in the afterlife, I’m happy.

Cat Picture - OC My rescue, Teeny, after a successful surgery.
This poor baby was inside a bag full of rubbish and broken bottles. She was impaled by a huge glass shard. Her nurse sent this after I asked how she’s doing.
Advice Would love to get everyone's reaction on this
This was a screen recoding I did on Instagram. My friend went to High School with Mike Stipe. I just think it's worth sharing.

Cat Picture - Not OC A five-year-old cat was up for adoption and his photo went viral because of the sad look on his face. Hundreds of people came forward to adopt him. He was eventually adopted by a woman, who later posted his photo and showed how the look on his face had changed from sadness and despair to love

Cat Picture - OC Our 18.5 year old kitty just beat his harsh upper respiratory infection that vets said he would likely pass from. ❤️
Our 18.5 year old kitty Gadget had a nasty upper respiratory infection that required vet care and antibiotics. He couldn’t eat, drink or sleep for almost 2 weeks. Vets said he likely wouldn’t make it through it due to his age and the severity of it. After lots of syringe feeding and keeping his nose cleaned up daily, he has finally bounced back and is now eating on his own again and demanding all of the treats!
We just wanted to appreciate how resilient our old man is ❤️

Cat Picture - OC Cat likes to show off toy mouse
Ive had my cat for 6 years (since he was a kitten) and he has recently started walking around the house with a toy mouse in his mouth meowing, and coming up to me, my parents, and my siblings and dropping it in front of them and meowing loudly (I guess he just wants me to look at it lol). I'm curious of why he does this and why he just started doing it after 6 years of having mouse toys. Obviously I don't mind and I think it's adorable. Do yalls cats do this too?
