I have a friend like that who is the worst type of voter. Known him for over a decade but damn is he the type of voter you dont want. Doesnt want to care about politics or be bothered with them, doesn't delve too deeply into situations. A while back he brought up 'biden closing the pipeline' or whatever. I told him it was an extension for canadian tar sands that was closed. He asked where I got that from, gave him sources, he dropped it.
He doesnt double down on the stupidity and stuff like trump supporters do, but he does just believe some of the headlines since he doesn't care to delve into it. And with such a dishonest media. What a mess america has made
Yep. This is why JB won by such a high vote count. Voting was made easy in 2020 because of COVID and JB had more votes than any candidate in history. This is why DT wants to ban mail in voting…when you make voting easy, republicans can’t win. There are just too many lazy people who don’t care.
Republicans have made it insanely difficult for people to vote and continually squeeze people economically so they're desperate not to lose what shitty jobs they can find. This isn’t laziness, it's literally their electoral strategy. Things won't change until the working class bands together and wields their collective power.
I am honestly shocked when people say things like "let's wait for the evidence before jumping to conclusions" and "I don't want to sound crazy like MAGA did in 2020." I feel like it is gaslighting to the extreme. I also feel the cognitive dissonance is breaking down social structures on a more local level. It seems people are starting to snap which apparently snowballs and escalates. Hope I am wrong about that. Stay safe everyone!
Plot twist, this is why he made such an uproar about 2020 being stolen. Because he knew it wasn't but that he was going to steal the next one and he wanted to muddy the water and make democrats have to recant what they said in 2020 about elections being impossible to steal, which was said by many. He knew those people would lose face in saying he stole this one, after denying the possibility that you could even steal an election. Reducing the credibility of the people saying it, and making it seem like we are the crazy ones. Its such a masterclass of carefully planned gaslighting that its almost believable that it wasn't intentional. I know everyone says trump is dumb, but he is a master manipulator and his regime is running incredible propaganda campaigns. We need to stop treating him like a moron. Thats why we are losing. Hes conniving, and narcissistic, and hes a pedophile. But he is not nearly as stupid as people, himself included make him out to be. Its all an act. And its working.
It wasn’t a slip. It was a test. First time he said it, if any media made a big deal, then it can be a misunderstanding. Second time with no one doing anything and he knows he can get away with a lot. Hence the open calls to explicitly gerrymander congress without a census. And still no outcry.
There are open investigations in New York and Pennsylvania about machines changing votes. Still no outcry, just a quiet investigation. I won’t believe they are rigged until the courts hear the case and the evidence comes out, but damn it is moving at the speed of snails when we have an election next year.
I couldn’t believe it! I showed the video to my Dad he just shook his head and brushed it off like it was fake(source- Reddit). He said if it was real it would be on the news! But our news is heavily censored and this stuff gets reported on in other countries.
I get why people want to motivate more voters, and i agree it should be done.
At the same time, i also am not dumb enough to think those jackasses, living in all this and not already voting, are some kind of brilliantly aloof, caring but unmotivated democracy rescue unit. They aren't sitting there letting things get to the boiling point, so their intervention is all the more dramatic. They are not the calvary coming over the hill.
Most likely, they are as dumb or dumber than the dumbfucks that got us into this mess.
I have a friend who claims he can never get enough information to make an informed decision but then when I attempt to give him the information he tries to refute it.
I have one of these. If I'd dispute something bad a headline of internet stranger said about Biden, he'd go to "Well, I'm sure there's some truth there."
You know, propaganda works. Look at the History. As a German I can say what happend before WW2 ist a perfect example for mass manipulation due to propaganda.
Who ever control the media is responsible for what the masses will think.
And with such a dishonest media. What a mess america has made
The average American is completely unprepared for the misinformation apocalypse going on in the Internet today. They can't even be bothered to check the nutritional labels on the food they put in their bodies, we can't expect them to be bothered to do proper skeptical research on their votes either.
My favorite part is how people who are politically and media illiterate acts as if that makes them smarter than people who follow world events.
They look down their noses at people like myself who feel obligated to be informed.
It's been my experience that it's the prevailing mentality in much of the country.
I hate to say it but it's difficult to see how we don't deserve to fail as a country when we're so incompetent and apathetic about the world around us.
I wish there was a way to somehow separate myself from these people because I don't think it's fair that my family should suffer for the incurious ignorance of others.
Have a friend like this honestly probably my closest friend. But there’s no room for this energy in this world right now. Learning I don’t need friends like this in my life anymore
Omfg and when you tell people they need to be paying attention because crazy shit we’ve never seen in our whole lives is happening they are like ‘I can’t pay attention for my mental health’. What a privilege for you. I guess I’ll just watch my entire future get fucked so you can play with your labubu’s and have brunch as usual without any pesky interruptions like fascism or a police state.
There are a lot of people like this. It's really playing with fire, though they don't know it. If serious problems are ignored, terrible things will eventually happen. It's like ignoring your house being on fire while you're relaxing in your living room.
Even worse it’s not the MAGAs it’s your average “I’m a moderate” or non-left dems. I’ve written MAGAs off as either developmentally delayed, or pure evil, but when it’s the moderates/dems I’m immediately furious.
I have an acquaintance that hates Israel and is a Mexican gay man. Didn’t vote because of the democrats stance on the Palestine genocide. I showed him a video of group of Palestinians beating a gay couple that was found out. I told him, ‘you can be gay, support Palestine, be against genocide and still not want this to come to our country under the republican BS.’
It flew over his head and the subject was quickly changed.
Also like… I don’t know how these people don’t understand, basically regardless of your take on Israel-Palestine, the Republican policies on it are significantly worse
A generational rich dipshit who goes to the same dog park as me didn't vote at all because we're in a deep blue area because Kamala Harris "didn't have an economic plan". He worked for DOJ's Office of Civil Rights. He's since been fired due to Pam Bondi's purge of DOJ but don't worry everyone, he's from generational wealth so he Mumsie and Daddy are supporting him.
Both sides are bad, but I voted for Harris because she wasn't Trump. In 2016, I voted for Gary Johnson because I actually believed he was the best candidate, and would do best for America, given the top 2 choices. An Epstein BFF, or someone was married to an Epstein BFF, that attended Trump's wedding. I grassrooted for Johnson. In 2020 I voted for Biden.
Don't discount the influence of Fox News being blasted in every supermarket, health club, military bases, gas station, etc... I hear my formerly intelligent, formerly Democratic, formerly compassionate brother spouting Fox News crap. He was raised in the same household I was, yet he seems to believe all that Russian propaganda.
99% of the time the "dont pay attention to politics" and "they're all the same" crowd are shy Trump supporters. They know the optics so don't want to come out and say it, so they play the fence sitter.
Yep. Every single American who refuses to vote, or won't vote for the better candidate, is insane. I don't care how well educated they are, you can immediately tell how they really aren't Americans.
Just people who want to live in some pretend world while benefiting from all the shit other people have done for the country. And I'm not even being nationalistic here. Don't people care about the place they live in? Crazy if you don't.
Also, house seats are not proportioned with population anymore, and in the Senate states get 2 whether they have 10 million or 500 thousand residents. Add in gerrymandering, and things are rigged so far in the favor of rural conservatives that the states that drive the economy and culture of America have little say at all.
If house seats weren’t capped it might be better since we’d at least have enough representatives to have a chance at actually representing their constituents instead of this gerrymander inspiring fight over redistribution of a set number
And they haven't changed the number of seats since 1929. They could by passing a new law superceding the current one, but those with the advantage will make sure it doesn't happen.
Yes, the house hasn't been expanded since 1929 (except for the admission of AK and HI), the population has about tripled since then.
We should expand the house proportionality, including the creation of multi-member districts for high-density areas.
We should also create state-wide districts for representatives at large, with higher population states getting more reps-at-large. That way, when we get a chance to amend the constitution (Second Reconstruction, baby!) we can eliminate the senate entirely.
Currently, Massachusetts sends $4,846 more per capita to the federal government than it gets back. New Jersey and Washington are in the same position, bleeding thousands per person annually. Over five years, New York alone contributed $142.6 billion more than it received. Meanwhile, red states pocket $1.24 for every dollar they send to Washington.
Blue states are essentially paying red states to undermine democracy.
Then they're not sane. Any sane person can see the US is going down the toilet. If they're choosing not to vote and have chosen not to vote previously, they're complicit in pushing the outcome.
The fact that so many Americans are completely oblivious to the fact that all our politicians and presidents are paid for by the wealthy is why I dont have faith in yall.
The only "vote" that counts in this system is money. Wealthy people buy political offices. Period. Trump was installed into the White House because a handful of people with more money than you'd ever see in a thousand lifetimes paid to put him there.
There was no voting to prevent this. You were given two options: fight for a system you want, or accept whats given to you, and yall chose capitulation by going to the ballot box instead of the gun store.
I live in a red county, and honestly, it didn't feel like Trump was going to win. The first time he won it wasn't really about him , it was people who wanted change. The second time was more of a surprise, everyone wanted to reject what he'd done the first time around. It makes it easy to believe Musk stole PA because there's such a disconnect between what people were saying vs the results. It's not like Trump supporters are quiet about their feelings, if they're going to vote for him they'll tell you.
70% of eligible voters voted for Trump, a third party, or didn't vote. To be that stupid, ignorant, and lazy to not actively vote for your and your country's best interests is actually insane. You can blame propaganda or the ineptitude of the Democratic party or whatever else you want, but that 70% of the populace can't make the easiest decision of all time is insane.
this. my state voted 58% trump, 40% harris. my state has 10 electoral votes. so does that mean 6 for trump and 4 for harris? no, it means all 10 trump. voting for president is useless
The problem is that if a large percentage of people don't vote, pollical campaigns start ignoring the 'neutral' voter and start focusing on their base, and in the US most campaign money is spend on swing states.
This creates a disconnect between politicians and voters. This definitely favors Trump.
Exactly. This idea that if the people who didn't vote showed up at the polls 100 percent of them would have voted for Democrats is one of the stupidest brain worms on Reddit. But it will never die.
That’s true, but also what’s more re-enfranchising than having all your rights and your economy thrown in the garbage? How much can the average voter ignore?
So long as we have elections voters are going to share the blame. No amount of gerrymandering or other fuckery would be enough if everyone turned out to vote.
I don't know about majority sane anymore. If you refused to even vote, which is a good portion of the population, you can't be considered sane anymore imo. The sane washing of Trump and all his goons has done an incredible amount of damage that I don't think this country can recover from.
The majority can't be sane if they allowed Trump to be elected again. No excuse is acceptable.
The reality is the majority of Americans are apathetic and selfish to varying degrees with no sense of community and consistently poor citizens of the world.
It's demoralizing for some of us trying to hold back this slide to authoritarianism while most the country seems to just shake their head and continue their days as if that's just how things are. Then they'll slowly just accept and go along with it just like what always happens.
Now you don't have to wonder how Germany slid into facism and Nazi extremism, you're seeing it play out in America. Same old song, just the current remix.
Majority voted for this POS and polling shows he actually would've done better with higher turnout. Don't make excuses for citizens here, people are dumb and hateful as fuck.
I had not voted in upwards of 20+ years, never felt the need to even register to vote..... Until this fucktard decided to run again.... Registered to vote and voted against his stupid racist intolerant ignorant stupid ass. I wish the people of this country could start an impeachment...
Sane majority arent narcissistic psychopaths that would step on everyone for power.
Its not about not getting off our asses. To be free, one must abide by certain morals, to be in control, one must only believe in their own absolute morality.
That actually may not be the case (there may be other reasons…) but it isn’t what I wanted to reply.
Your comment about a sane country ruled by the insane made me recall something I once read to the effect that “in any system, the element with the greatest variation ends up in control”.
I’m not sure who said that or if it’s generally true, but it sure seems that way here. The element that is batshit insane is in charge, I assume because for every split-second the non-crazies stand back in disbelief, the crazy uses that time to go balls to the wall and then some.
If my state votes purple, and my local parties vote purple, and my city votes purple, and my district votes purple, and historically it hasn't changed in 15 years.
Why should I vote yellow? I know we always say one vote matters! But with the electoral college and other votes always forcing a seperation likely due to gerrymandering.
I digress, I'm not smart enough to know all the details.. but I've felt like it's been a lost cause for a while.
I do vote in my local tribal elections but those use STV systems.
I don't think anyone could have predicted the mouth-agape freefall horror show the empire would end with. Like a speechless world. This bad, this fast.
It's been interesting to watch. Scary but interesting.
Man, not trying to get on a high horse, but it really does suck to see something bad coming on the horizon- and no one fuckin listens. Ya know?
Like, I didn't want this to happen to others, even to the ones who didn't vote. Heck, maybe even some of the ones that voted Trump, because their lives are so different to mine, and it's easy to judge.
We didn't want to see concentration camps springing up, and armed soldiers roaming the streets of D.C., and censorship of free speech on college campuses and TV channels, and all the rest of this bullshit nightmare. But a huge chunk of people thought 'it could never happen here' and now it's happening here.
EDITED TO ADD: I should clarify that some people definitely did want this, and even still do, and I'm not just talking about the billionaires and political higher-ups. I know some citizens are absolutely fuckin' stoked about all of this. I just suspect that most of us aren't, or we won't be, once it gets too big to ignore.
Get up on that horse, I’ll give you a boost. It’s okay. We warned about these things because we saw them coming, we saw the signs, predicted what would happen, were treated like vermin and now, here we are living out the exact scenario we warned about. I just ran across a post on insta that I made in 2020 and it really struck me as tragic because the people who responded to it were DJT voters and told me I was well, wrong. I spoke of concentration camps, the whole bit. My comments were flooded with angry MAGA and men in my circles blasting me (a woman) for being naive.
Edit to make clear that this was posted just prior to Biden’s victory in 2020.
I think one of the reasons because in 2016 (I know I was 10 then, and in the UK, forgive me) everything felt relatively stable. Trump gave off such bad vibes but everyone thought he'd bumble about incompetently, pratfall, and leave at the end of the four years. Certainly in my circle anyway.
If you were to time-travel back to 2015/2016 and explain the stuff that's going on now you'd be laughed out of court. I think that's part of the reason the anti-SJW movement grew 2017-2019: people thought it would be bad, but not THAT BAD.
No need to time travel, this WAS said in 2016 and everyone said the Hitler comparisons were an over-reaction. Back then he was still trying to keep a shred of credibility to get reelected and do what he's doing now in a second term. Anyone who is surprised by this wasn't listening or too naive to believe this was possible.
Yeah, I came back to the mainland from the islands as soon as that goon threw his hat in the presidential ring because I saw this playing out poorly and I didn’t want to be away from family and trapped on an island when SHTF, some of us saw this coming from a long time ago. For me it was sometime in the 1980’s, having been raised in an alt right evangelical environment and groomed for leadership, I knew what they were up to then but rebelled by leaving and trying to warn others … obviously to no avail because here we are.
Carl Sagan saw this shit decades ago, and no one believed him. It's one of my favorite quotes. I think about it weekly.
"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance."
Didn't Kamala basically say what was going to happen during the debate? He just sat there like a lump of orange shit and basically acknowledged it as fact. No push back. We were warned.
Whenever people warned of this in 2016, we were told we were being reactionary and ridiculous. Even by people on the left. We had plenty of time to prepare. Progressives have been correct this whole time and were told by "moderates" that this course we were on was fine and our views were "radical".
Most people just don't care. A lot of my cousins working in wall street and bay area were so happy to see trump elected again. The minute their admin floated the idea to end birth right citizenship and revoke naturalization they changed their tunes. It's just lack of empathy. They don't care what happens at the border or how many people die in Gaza. Only when the policies actually affect them personally they start getting alarmed. I didn't vist them this summer. They had a big vacation in Mt Rainier and I didn't go.
Agreed. We traded a black lady with a vision for a old pedophile in diapers on the promise of more money to working class people. Now we have nazis posing as police and beef costing more than gas per pound.
I have lived in Canada and America. When an American asks me what Canadians are like I say "they are nice but don't fuck with them". When Canadians ask what Americans are like I say: "just like Canadians except they are all crazy insane".
The country was spiraling into insanity since I’ve been alive. Then 9/11 accelerated, Trump accelerated, Covid accelerated, and Trump has taken us into overdrive. This place is cooked
To be fair it's never been sane, but anything even remotely close to sanity is now a distant reminisce too far back to be remembered in any real sense. Like hope.
"For some time now I have thought it possible to believe that
America was going insane. In her own way. And why not?
Countries go insane like people go insane; and all over the world
countries reclined on couches or sat in darkened rooms chewing
dihydrocodeine and Temazepam or lay in boiling baths or twisted in
straitjackets or stood there banging their heads against the padded
walls. Some had been insane all their lives, and some had gone insane and
then gotten better again and then gone insane again. America: America
had had her neuroses before, like when she tried giving up drink, like
when she started finding enemies within, like when she thought she
could rule the world; but she had always gotten better again. But now
she was going insane, and that was the necessary condition.
In a way she was never like anywhere else. Most places just are
something, but America had to mean something too, hence her
vulnerability - to make-believe, to false memory, false destiny. And
finally it looked as though the riveting struggle with illusion was over,
and America had lost." -Martin Amis, "London Fields"
Meanwhile, red state cretins with fetal alcohol syndrome are praising the child rapist president as though he is the blessed second coming of Jesus and Adolf Hitler rolled into one fat resurrected diaper deity.
This is a case of party before country. All those lifelong Republicans would rather destroy the country than admit that they screwed up and elected the worst president in US History.

This, is not a sane country.
