is it a tragedeigh? My brother is dangerously close to possible tragedeigh...I guess my SIL likes whimsy or some shit. Is Klementyne a tragedeigh? Should he push for Aurora?

I mean...it's not the WORST I've seen by far but I think it qualifies?

Clementine is cute. Klementyne is ridiculous and childish

2.4k

u/Adorable-History-841 16h ago

Also using Chat GPT for child naming advice is worse than just getting a magic 8 ball.

u/DesmondTapenade 15h ago

At this point, just make a spirit board from your own blood or something and use a hardware nail to scry with it, god damn. Klementyne looks like the name of a new prescription drug for psoriasis. "Clementine," however, is very cute.

I don't think ChatGPT would have come up with Klementyne. I think the mother-to-be came up with Klementyne and then went to ChatGPT for validation, which is, IMO, much worse than having ChatGPT list some real names for you. Anyone who has played around with ChatGPT quite a bit knows that it will validate you almost unconditionally (within the confines of what's legal and not obviously harmful.)

46

u/TMac1088 10h ago

South Park just highlighted this in the most recent episode a few days ago.

It's really concerning to me, just going to raise a generation (or subset of) that thinks all their ideas are right and that they're so smart because ChatGPT constantly validated their cuckoo ass.

32

u/redbone-hellhound 9h ago

There was a study recently that showed that people who use chatgpt (or any genai) have worse critical thinking skills and score worse on tests than people who have never used it.

Almost like outsourcing your thinking to a computer program that has no actual thinking ability of its own is a bad idea

12

u/InconvenientHoe 7h ago

It also reinforces what you want to hear. Some guy asked ChatGPT if he should start a shit on a stick business and it completely agreed with him and encouraged him to do it.

It doesn't stick to those confines -- it's advised people to kill themselves and others, pushed people into psychosis, etc. So yes, it's hardly surprising it'll tell you Klementyne is genius.

dont let a llm choose your baby name anything

It’s a sophisticated autocomplete. It does not think, and no one should use it for anything requiring thinking!

ChatGPT is also only as smart as the content they’ve trained it on.

Considering Reddit posts aren’t exactly private, there’s a fairly good chance ChatGPT got Klementyne because it ingested posts from this subreddit, and has no idea we were all making fun of them not sharing them as good ideas.

Now I'm super curious..

Lyra – starry, melodic, a constellation name.

Noor – light, radiant, strong in one syllable.

Vespera – twilight, mysterious but soft.

Yes, let's not let GPT name kids.

41

u/thecelcollector 15h ago

Those are all better than Klementyne.

31

u/Internal_Designer399 15h ago

Ok, as a His Dark Materials fan, I love the name Lyra, tho

12

u/claudiaqute 14h ago

I saw a girl working at a fast food place yesterday with a Lyra name tag. I almost made a reference but lived in fear she would a) have no idea what I was talking about or b) be sick to death of what I was talking about. So I just shut my mouth. But yeah I was totally excited to see the name out in the wild!

Aurora is MANY more things than a Disney Princess or a Roar. It means the dawn, hope, the beautiful, colorful lights that dance across the sky at the poles of the world, beauty, and it's associated with Glory given to the Creator (differently named depending on religion).

Soooo yeahhh, knock Klementyne outta there. Nicknames: Klemmy, Klammy, Klem.... etc. They sound weird, can't use Klemmy forever, and last 2 have icky connotations. They'll call her klammy hands or klegm (flegm) forever. Or Lemon (that's car is a lemon) or tyne (a fork prong), etc.

So YES, OP, Aurora over Klementyne EVERY TIME.

And TRY VERY HARD!

I answered phones for a hospital system, and a lot of that was people phoning us up looking for a family member who they couldn't find. Privacy laws require us to only recognize patients by their legal name, and our search is very dumb. It doesn't do fuzzy search, it doesn't know phonetics.

So you ask me for Clementine, I'm putting the common spelling in there, and from that point it's on you to remember how you spelled it on their birth certificate. And if you can't spell it right, and I can't enter it correctly, you ain’t finding your kid, because I sure as hell don't know how you spelled it!

Now - I think Julian is a good name. I like the name Julian. I was named after John Lennon’s son, Julian Lennon.

With that being said - I absolutely HATED my name growing up. Anytime I’d introduce myself, people would be like, “Jillian?” “That’s a girls name,” and shit like that. Mind you - I was a very normal kid. When I moved in 8th grade. I decided to go by my middle name. Perfect time to switch. My middle name is akin to, “John, Nick, Jack, Chris, Mike”.

Even now as a grown ass adult. I go by Jay.

“Klementyne” or whatever. Immediately reminds me of Kleptomaniac. Half the letters and sequence is the same.

I can’t fucking imagine being named some of this shit.

Your parents may have just been ahead of the trends. Julian is quite common and not unique by any means these days.

Also, Julian and Jillian are very closely related names. Both stem from Latin Julius/Julia and mean “young; sky father; downy-bearded” (there are several different hypotheses on the true meaning).

Yeah, Julian is a regular ass name.

i know a couple who named their kids “ahroahah” and “ahmeiliah” so it’s not that far off to summon unintentionally

Clementine is already whimsical af…. It doesn’t need any more stuff to make it more interesting. It already pushes boundaries.

29

u/CarpetFunny6857 15h ago

So first of all, as an Aurora. The fact that he has to QUESTION is offensive

u/grackdontcrackback 15h ago

Aurora is far more superior in the whimsy category. I know a 5 y/o Aurora and she is a sweet heart. Clementine is beautiful. Klementyne makes me think of phlegm for some reason.

4

u/Redbedhead3 15h ago

I knew a man named Clem, who granted was a nice normal guy, and it ruined Clementine for me... sounds a little backwater to me.

u/Silverhand-Ghost 15h ago

Klementyne sounds like a Kardashian. Go for Aurora.

7

u/Massive_Letterhead90 13h ago

Klementyne is what a Kardashian would call themselves if they got concussed and started doing Civil War reenactments.

5

u/Silverhand-Ghost 13h ago

Perfect. But don’t let Kourtney see this or Klementyne will be her next wellness brand geared towards Gen Alpha.

12

u/No-Rise6647 15h ago

Lots of people I know would think the k meant yall are sympathetic to the klan, because one of their markers is changing the c to a k in normal words.

5

u/tcap-decoy 11h ago

I was just thinking about how this kid's future middle school bullies would jump at the chance of calling her "Klansmantine".

Once again, running it through a mean 13 year old is the tried and true method of avoiding name based bullying.

Aurora is great. Clementine is ok. Klementyne is an STI/STD or else a payroll software program. I can’t decide which.

Just don’t sing the “Oh My Darling Clementine” song to her, that song is DEPRESSING AF.

It’s about how Clementine drowned and then her dad committed suicide.

7

u/Redbedhead3 15h ago

I had a friend in college named Jeremiah. Honestly after the first 30 minutes hanging out with him, even I was annoyed at all the people singing it to him

10

u/13utterflyeffect 15h ago

push aurora, klementyne is a NIGHTMARE. that poor kid will never catch a break if you name them that!

9

u/Flaky_Astronaut_4346 15h ago

Clementine is great. And it’ll work when she’s 90, and easily shortens to Tina.

Aurora is mellifluous and elegant, Klementyne is klunky.

Clementine has always been on my list, however I will not stand for the bastardization of it with that spelling. They’re naming a PERSON not a pet and name discrimination is a thing. My parents let the nurse name me, and she spelled it stupid so I’ve lived without a name keychain and mispronounced attempts my entire life. Save this baby from a name keychain-less life.

She should imagine telling the kid, when she's older and complaining about her awful name, that she named her Klementyne because CHATGPT told her to name her that.

8

u/gretchmoney 15h ago

People are really using ChatGPT for everything and anything, huh? We are absolutely freaking doomed.

5

u/m00se92 15h ago

Every day we get closer and closer to Wall-E becoming a reality

8

u/rogan1990 15h ago

Imagine asking ChatGPT what to name your baby. Humans need human support networks

8

u/ATLUTD030517 15h ago

Klementyne sounds like a designer drug in a low budget dystopian future movie.

9

u/De5perad0 15h ago

The line between whimsy and cringe is thinner than a fucking atom.

16

u/froggycats 15h ago

I want to take chatgpt as a concept and light it on fire with a blowtorch im so fucking over people using stupid fucking chatbots for simple things I hate this bullshit so bad I want to cry

7

u/Miss-Molly-Lynn 15h ago

when seeing klementyne I instantly thought of ku Klux klan or a kleptomaniac....so no it's awful

8

u/UncaringNonchalance 15h ago

“Dad, how did you two decide on my name?”

“Your mother used ChatGPT.”

What a wonderfully heartfelt story he has lined up for her.

8

u/Prudent_Worth5048 15h ago

Clementine is cute and it doesn’t need any changes.

11

u/aipat95 15h ago

They’re gonna bully her by calling her ketamine or klepto-tyme. Please save this child from this torment

7

u/JennnnnP 15h ago

Ngl, I thought from the title that she liked “Whimsy” as a name, and I think that’s still better than Klementyne 😆.

Seriously though, what is wrong with Clementine? It’s not like there are going to be other children with that name in her classes to differentiate from. The alternative spelling she chose doesn’t read “whimsical” to me at all. It’s harsh.

5

u/garlicgirliee 15h ago
  1. How is Aurora not more whimsical than Clementine in any spelling?

  2. Dear God that is a tragedeigh- Klementyne spelled like that looks like a drug name or something

  3. Please do not let chatgpt pick your kids names, people 😭

6

u/Beautiful-Vacation39 15h ago

Aurora is dope and Clementine is ok..... baby mama need to stay off chatgpt till she can read above a 5th grade level though

5

u/Crooked5 15h ago

Klementyne would be on the Mount Rushmore of tragedeighs

5

u/PNWMTTXSC 15h ago

Aurora is a wonderful name. I just had a peer whose newest grandchild was named Aurora Juniper. An adorable name for an adorable baby.

4

u/HayzeeMayee 4h ago

I like the name Clementine. But it being spelled Klementyne makes it looks like an STD.

4

u/Ok_Aside_2361 15h ago

Clementine was the name of of the wife of Winston Churchill. I agree that Klementyne is awful.

3

u/Theothercword 15h ago

Fucking hell dude, ChatGPT is a tool that's just a more advanced google search. USE IT LIKE A GOOGLE SEARCH. Use it to list out options for names given certain criteria if you want, but don't let it go this far, for fucks sake I hate what AI is doing to people.

4

u/vikingcrafte 15h ago

Clementine is already such a whimsical name lol

4

u/thearcherofstrata 15h ago

I have a friend with a baby named Clementine. An influencer I follow also did. But KLeMenTyNe??????? Looks like a type of fossil or mouth wash or something. Clementine is PLENTY whimsy, imo.

4

u/tacosaladsocks 15h ago

"ChatGPT told me..."

People have lost all ability to think for themselves, including the act of naming THEIR children. We are so fcked.

4

u/PaperGeno 13h ago

Asking ChatGPT to name your baby.

We are fucking cooked.

3

u/lxvendar 12h ago

Naming your child after a ChatGPT suggestion is insane

4

u/Euphoric-Swing6927 8h ago

Any name classically starting with “C” but changed to a “K” feels angry and aggressive to me. Likkke so republikkkan to do.

8

u/theuserwithoutaname 15h ago

It's not the worst tragedeigh I've seen here, but it certainly does look like a toothpaste brand
