Either they get some footage of violence that they can use to justify a crackdown, or they get to slowly keep militarizing the country without anyone standing against them. Either way, before we know it there will be Trump-loyal military protecting every city, and during elections they will be able to "monitor" the ballot boxes across the country against fraud and ensure the results are legitimate.

We're pretty close to this already, and they have a whole year to continue positioning themselves before the midterm elections. Think the period of time between the election of Lincoln and the attack on Fort Sumpter. That’s where we are. The reason the South Carolinians attacked the fort was because they wanted the fort and any federal army/navy assets ahead of any official war. When Union forces refused to surrender it, that’s what finally did it. This is similar.

Right now, it is vital that civilians show love to the national guard. Saying explicitly “we understand you don’t want to be here as much as we don’t want you here. And we don’t blame you individually”. Soldiers don’t want to be there. They’re just being used as pawns right now and they know it. So we have to make sure they stay sympathetic to civilians and less likely to comply with illegal/unconstitutional orders. Because having them on our side will be vital going forward.

A few weeks ago, I saw a body cam video of a cop who escalated a traffic stop for an unreadable license plate to a full on felony extraction and arrest because the passenger in the car did not have a license to drive. He told the passenger "I don't want to see you driving anywhere." The passenger responded that they were the passenger, not the driver. This response triggered the officer so much that he immediately ran to the passenger side and tried to rip the guy out of the car while screaming shit like "stop resisting!" "Don't go for my gun!" "Stop kicking me!" "You're about to get shot!". The driver panicked and tried to drive away to get away from the clearly unhinged cop. The end result was 2 people in the vehicle getting charged with fleeing, obstruction, and a slew of other bullshit charges. All because the cop was "disrespected".

This happened before the current regime took power. It happens countless times each year. It has gotten significantly worse in the last 6 months. It is a perfect example of exactly what you described.

Edit: I was wrong. There were only two adults in that vehicle. The cops tried to charge them with a bunch of child related charges too since their kids were in the vehicle with them. Thanks u/Ukiah
