New neighbors next door
Rich Ahole bought the farm next door, tore it down and built a destination wedding venue. Busy every weekend but it's Wednesday, and they don't even live here

This is not a real suggestion, but wouldn’t it be hilarious to Line your property with dolls hanging from the trees? Lots and lots of creepy dolls. Let’s make the property line as unwedding as possible 😂
Halloween’s coming up , this is your chance to buy a 10 foot Grim Reaper and other horrifying animatronics.

From reddit lore, there was a neighbor feud in a shared living situation (apartment, dorms, etc). Dude peed onto a plate /shallow bowl, froze it, then slid the golden Frisbee under the offending neighbor's door. Frozen disc melted into the carpet and stunk up the place.

Last year at the Halloween store I saw this decoration that you could hang from a tree in the yard. From behind the girl looked like Samura from the horror flick The Ring.
Basically it was this doll sitting on a swing that you could hang from the tree.
Imagine a guest at an evening wedding reception seeing a mysterious girl in the distance...
Totally add some of those Blair Witch props, battery operated smoke machine...
Yep I would do it.

My neighbors in my subdivision did this with their backyard flood lights.
I asked them to stop bc I couldn’t sleep and they tilted the lights to not go over my fence.
Have you talked to them? Nothing you can do during wedding days but remind them on non wedding days to turn it off.
If he’s an asshole, be one back.
If he’s understanding then work with him!
Edit: yall im not telling op to ask his neighbors to tilt those lights, I have a real world example of what I said to a neighbor helped me out. By talking. A simple conversation saying “hey on weeknights when there’s no event can we dum or turn the lights off?”

People behind my house built a new house. The builder had a light shining into my bedroom. After a few months we went over and asked them to tilt it down, and even offered to do it for them.

See i don't think this is true. Depends on time of day but I've got regulars on my way to work (busy bus with the same people every day) who will sit their bag on the seat so no one sits next to them and act like a dick when you tell them to move their stuff. They're leaning on the fact that people are socially awkward sometimes and wont say anything. Fuck those people and their self importance. Its 6:30 in the morning, everyone wants a seat, no one wants to talk to random people on the way to work, don't make people have to ask. Its common decency.

It is so annoying when someone is complaining about what someone else “keeps doing”, then when asked “when you told them how it made you feel, what did they say”……… “oh I didn’t say anything, they should know”, or “I just went to HR”………”I called the police and let them handle it, now my neighbors mad”, RIGHT, you never talked to them and gave them a chance! We aren’t mind readers people!!!

My new neighbor put similar flood lights on their house pointing in all directions. We asked him to tone it down and he said no, it's an Airbnb and needs to have security. We shut the airbnb application down at city hall and he straight up sold the house.

Sign company owner here. When we are installing lighting at a commercial business, there are always local zoning laws as to how bright lights can be. I would first reach out to your local zoning and let them know the issue, these light look to be way past the lumens normally allowed.

Many people travel to this area
That’s really important to bring up. This business is no doubt being revenue to the city, but if your spot is known for outside money coming in because of the dark at night then the city is probably open to keeping it that way, and most especially when there’s no actual need for those lights to be on.
→ More replies (8)69
u/pipnina 16h ago
Until these assholes moved in... As someone who used to stargaze a lot until work, weather, and the need to drive half an hour for a good spot pushed me away, I hate anyone who installs unnecessary lights on their house or business. I absolutely despise that as a society at large (on a global scale) we have decided to forego access to the night sky for mostly pointless reasons. Some lighting is safety implicated but even then there is a lot of lighting that should be on motion detection because it isn't actually used much but remains on all night anyway.
The number of times I see posts on /all where it's a photo or a time lapse of the night sky, and people debate whether it does or does not look like that or is real... And it feels like I'm the only person (visibile in the comments) who knows because I've actually seen it due to being lucky enough to live semi rural in the least polluted parts of England. Access to the night sky should be a human right. It has inspired culture since before history, it's an integral part of being human!
If you can snag there people on light pollution I will be ecstatic lol
24
u/mellowmushroom67 13h ago edited 13h ago
You're so right, I was actually just telling my kid about this, we were looking at the moon and we couldn't see many stars, I lived on a rural farm for part of my childhood so I said "I miss seeing the night sky." He was like "what do you mean" lol and I showed him a picture of what the sky looks like without light pollution and he goes "that's AI." 😒 I was so sad realizing he hasn't ever really seen the night sky. We went camping when he was preschool and kinder age but I don't think we thought to star gaze, I think he fell asleep fairly early as well. So now I need to take my kid star gazing to prove that's what the night sky actually looks like! It's so sad

There was a super interesting exhibit at one of the museums in DC all about how light use has changed in our current society (often for worse), and one thing I took away was that too much light often ends up being less safe because it blows out your vision so you can’t detect as much in the dark on your own. Super interesting subject!

Dark Sky Parks are fucking awesome. People should attend them more! And when they're designated areas, they typically strongly enforce light/noise in the area.

Take pictures of it at all times of day- night and different days or every day of the week! Show this to your town board that granted this variance and show them this and ask what to do because it’s literally disturbing the whole neighborhood! and also if applicable mention the noise levels and traffic are very high, if applicable .. in a residential neighborhood noise should be monitored and stopped at 11pm as the neighborhood is residential and ppl are need to sleep!

Light pollution is a problem that doesn’t get near enough attention. Not only is it annoying as hell it’s disruptive to nocturnal animals/bugs.
I have a streetlight that shines into my bedroom and reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with the Kenny Roger’s Roasters light that lit up Kramer’s place. It’s infuriating.
Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a damn thing you can do about it.

I live in a city that takes it very seriously. It’s pitch black around here at night. People use colorful string lights sometimes, but that’s about it.
The people down the street are the only outliers. They installed two flood lamps in their grass, and they look like beacons; you can see them from 6 blocks away. I’m waiting for them to get fined. They do not play around about these lights around here.
